1 Press foot pedal:
box pressure is
decreased within
the defined work-
ing range
2 Press foot pedal:
box pressure is
increased within
the defined work-
ing range
Pushing or pulling gloves into and out of the glovebox changes the inner glovebox
volume. This causes the box pressure to drift. The box pressure can be re-adjusted using
the foot pedals.
The glovebox is operated in positive pressure, gloves are directed outward the
glovebox
If you push the gloves (your hand inside the gloves) into the glovebox and you would
keep the box pressure as far as possible at the same level:
Before pushing the gloves into the glovebox reduce the glovebox pressure with the
foot pedals slightly.
The glovebox is operated in negative pressure, gloves are directed inward the
glovebox
If you pull the gloves (your hand inside the gloves) out the glovebox and you would keep
the box pressure as far as possible at the same level:
Before pulling the gloves out of the glovebox increase the glovebox pressure with
the foot pedals slightly.
8.8.2 Rough leakage detection
Pressure regulation is managed by the Siemens PLC with help of the vacuum and blower
valves.
If the actual glovebox pressure is within the range -2mbar ≤ P ≤ +2mbar and one of
these valves is opened, a timer starts. If the pressure has not changed by at least a
defined value when the timer expires, the "Box open or glove tear" alarm is generated.
8.8.3 Solvent vapours in glovebox atmosphere
Solvent vapours can attack the seal materials of the glovebox and antechamber. They
could also damage the reactor’s filter medium.
If the presence of solvent vapours can be expected as a result of the processes taking
place in the box:
Expand the system by installing a solvent filter.
