Why is my McQuay Air Conditioner not cooling enough?
    • S
      Shelly WardJul 31, 2025
Several factors can cause insufficient cooling capacity in your McQuay Air Conditioner. It could be due to the unit standing idle for too long, resulting in refrigerant absorption by the oil. Other causes include insufficient airflow through the condenser (due to a dirty condenser, obstructions, or fan issues) or through the evaporator (due to a dirty evaporator, ice buildup, a dirty air filter, or obstructions). An overloaded room, or open windows and doors can also be the culprit. Clean or replace filters, remove obstructions, ensure proper fan operation, and close windows and doors. Recalculate heat load if needed.

What to do if McQuay Air Conditioner blowers won’t operate on COOL?
    • A
      Anna SmithAug 5, 2025
If the blowers on your McQuay air conditioner aren't working in COOL mode, the possible causes are: no power, a faulty pushbutton switch, or loose connections at the pushbutton switch. Check the supply line fuses and circuit breakers, and ensure the power is on. Blown fuses may indicate circuit overloading. Also, check the voltage supply to the equipment, which should be within 10% of the data plate voltage. Replace a faulty switch or tighten any loose connections.

What to do if McQuay PTAC 106018561 Air Conditioner compressor starts and runs, but compressor occasionally stops (on overload device)?
    • H
      Heather RileyAug 10, 2025
If your McQuay Air Conditioner's compressor starts and runs but occasionally stops due to the overload device, it could be due to low voltage caused by overloaded circuits or high voltage fluctuations in the local power system. Another cause might be a partial short circuit in the compressor motor. Running a separate electric line to the equipment may help. Consulting your local power company is also recommended. If a partial short circuit is confirmed, ship the cooling chassis prepaid to the nearest McQuay authorized warranty station.

What to do if my McQuay PTAC 106018561 compressor starts and runs on COOL but blowers do not run?

      jordanalexanderAug 15, 2025
If the compressor in your McQuay air conditioner starts but the blowers don't, the issue might stem from a faulty pushbutton switch, an open-circuited blower motor, the blower rubbing against its housing, seized bearings on the blower motor, or a loose connection at the pushbutton switch. Try replacing the switch or blower motor, adjusting the blower motor or wheel position, lubricating the motor with SAE No. 10 oil, or tightening the connection.

Why does my McQuay PTAC 106018561 Air Conditioner blower run on COOL, but the compressor doesn’t start?
    • T
      Tara HolderAug 20, 2025
If the blower operates but the compressor doesn't start on your McQuay AC, it could be due to several reasons: the thermostat might be set too high, the heat valve could be open, there might be low voltage, a faulty pushbutton switch, a faulty connection at the switch, defective wiring to the thermostat, loose connections at the compressor terminals, defective wiring to the compressor terminals, loose connections in the compressor overload device, a malfunctioning starting capacitor, or a defective compressor motor. Adjust the thermostat, close the heat valve, check the voltage, replace the switch or wiring, tighten connections, or replace the capacitor. If the compressor motor is defective, *Replace cooling chassis prepaid to nearest McQuay authorized warranty station.

What to do if McQuay PTAC 106018561 Air Conditioner blowers run on COOL and compressor starts but stops after a short interval?
    • J
      Jerry LewisAug 26, 2025
If the blowers run and the compressor starts but stops shortly after on your McQuay Air Conditioner, it's likely due to the overload device activating because of an overloaded compressor motor. Check the voltage supply, clean the condenser inside and out, and ensure there's no recirculation of condenser air. Install air 'splitters' if they are missing. Verify that the condenser blower/fan is operating correctly. Also, check the compressor for a short circuit. If the compressor is defective, *ship cooling chassis to nearest McQuay authorized warranty station.
