If you observe a change in the flame appearance or burner operation of your Mendota Indoor Fireplace, it could be due to a change in gas pressure or the presence of carbon dirt or lint. First, have your gas supplier check the gas pressure (7" W.C. for Natural Gas; 11" W.C. for LP Gas). Also, clean out any carbon, spider webs, or lint from the shutter area, logs, and burner. Ensure that you never block the air intake or outlet vents.

      Andrew FloresAug 8, 2025
If a thin black coating (soot) forms on the viewing glass of your Mendota Indoor Fireplace, it could be due to incorrect gas pressure or insufficient combustion air. Have your gas supplier check the gas pressure (7" W.C. for Natural Gas; 11" W.C. for LP Gas). If sooting continues, open the air shutter on the burner. If the issue persists, shut off the unit and call a Mendota service person. To clean the glass, remove it and wipe it with a cloth or paper towel.

      Brittany PowellAug 15, 2025
Some humming or whistling from your Mendota Indoor Fireplace is normal due to the gas supply flowing through the gas orifice. This is expected from any gas fireplace. You can reduce the noise and the heat output by turning the Hi/Lo Knob on the control to turn down the flame.

A change in flame appearance or burner operation in your Mendota Indoor Fireplace can be caused by a change in gas pressure. Have your gas supplier check for the correct gas pressure (7" W.C. Nat. Gas; 11" W.C. LP Gas). It can also be caused by carbon dirt or lint. Clean out any carbon, spider webs, lint, etc. from the shutter area, logs, and burner. Never block air intake or outlet vents.
