How to clean soot off Mendota Indoor Fireplace glass?
    • E
      Eric BaldwinAug 1, 2025
To clean the glass of your Mendota Indoor Fireplace, remove it and wipe it down with a cloth or paper towel. If a thin black coating (soot) keeps forming, it could be due to incorrect gas pressure. Have your gas supplier check the gas pressure (7" W.C. for Natural Gas; 11" W.C. for LP). It could also be that there is not enough combustion air. Try to continue opening the air shutter on the burner. If the sooting continues, shut off the unit and call a Mendota service person.

      Amber CalhounAug 6, 2025
If you notice a change in flame appearance or burner operation in your Mendota Indoor Fireplace, it could be due to a change in gas pressure. Have your gas supplier check the gas pressure (7" W.C. Nat. Gas; 11" W.C. LP). Another cause could be carbon dirt or lint. Clean out any carbon, spider webs, lint, etc. from the burner, and ensure that air intake or outlet vents are not blocked.

Why is my Mendota Indoor Fireplace humming?
    • S
      Sarah MaddoxAug 11, 2025
A humming or whistling sound from your Mendota Indoor Fireplace is often a normal operating noise caused by the gas supply flowing through the gas orifice. Some noise is expected from any gas fireplace. Turning the Hi/Lo Knob on the unit can reduce the noise. Also, turning down the flame will reduce the heat output and can help minimize the noise.

      Carlos HoffmanAug 16, 2025
The formation of a thin black coating (soot) on the viewing glass of your Mendota Indoor Fireplace can be due to several reasons: incorrect gas pressure (in this case, have your gas supplier check for correct gas pressure - 7" W.C. for Natural Gas or 11" W.C. for LP), or not enough combustion air (in this case, continue to open the air shutter on the burner. If sooting continues, shut off the unit and call a Mendota service person). To clean the glass, remove it and wipe it with a cloth or paper towel.
