BEFORE STARTING
!
WARNING
To prevent possible injury or damage to equipment, do not install the
battery until all engine maintenance has been performed.
!
CAUTION
Avoid severe engine damage. Prime the engine oiling system before
starting the engine.
1. Manually prime the engine oiling system until oil pressure is seen at
the oil gauge. Refer to the oil changing procedure in this manual.
2. Ensure all cooling hoses are connected and clamps are tight.

CAUTION
Avoid electrical system damage. When installing the battery, be sure
to connect the negative (‑) battery cable to the negative (‑) battery
terminal and the positive (+) battery cable to the positive (+) battery
terminal.
3. Install a fully charged battery. Clean battery cable clamps and
terminals and reconnect cables. Tighten each cable clamp securely
when connecting.
4. Perform all checks detailed in Operation Chart, Before Starting.
IMPORTANT: Refer to Cooling System Flush before starting the engine.
5. Supply water to the engine cooling system.
STARTING WITHOUT PRIMING THE FUEL SYSTEM
IMPORTANT: Do not advance the throttle until the engine idles and runs
smoothly and the water temperature reaches a minimum of 54 °C (130 °
F).
1. Perform all Before Starting steps.
2. Connect the main permanent fuel line to the engine if it was
disconnected during storage.
3. Open the fuel shut off valve located between the tank and the water
separating fuel filter.
4. Turn the key switch to "RUN" and wait three seconds to allow the
fuel pump to prime the system.
5. Start the engine.
