Mercury 2.5 - Starting The Engine

CAUTION
Never start or operate your outboard (even momentarily) without water circulating through all the cooling water
intake holes in the gearcase to prevent damage to the water pump (running dry) or overheating of the engine.
1. Lower the outboard to the vertical operating position. Make sure all cooling water intake holes are submerged.

2. Open fuel tank vent.

3. Open the fuel shut-off valve.

4. Attach the lanyard to the stop switch. Refer to General Information - Lanyard Stop Switch.
NOTE: The engine will not start unless the lanyard is engaged with the stop switch.
