  If the remote control on your Mercury Engine operates hard, binds, has excessive free-play, or makes unusual sounds, try lubricating the shift and throttle linkage fasteners. Also, check for any obstructions in the shift or throttle linkages and remove them. Finally, inspect the shift or throttle cable for kinks; straighten the cable or have it replaced if damaged beyond repair.
