Overview

The MERCUSYS MB230-4G is a 4G+ Cat6 AC1200 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router designed to provide high-speed internet access and a robust Wi-Fi network. It leverages Carrier Aggregation technology to achieve superfast LTE speeds, offering up to 300 Mbps for downloads and 50 Mbps for uploads. The router also creates a dual-band 1200 Mbps Wi-Fi network, suitable for activities like gaming and streaming.

  • Operating Frequencies:
    • 2400MHz - 2483.5MHz (20dBm maximum transmitted power)
    • 5150MHz - 5250MHz (23dBm maximum transmitted power)
  • WCDMA Bands: B1/B5/B8 (24dBm+1/-3dBm)
  • LTE Bands: B1/B3/B7/B8/B20/B28/B38/B40 (23dBm±2dBm)
  • Wireless Standard: IEEE Standard 802.11 (maximum wireless signal rates are physical rates derived from this standard).
  • Ethernet Ports:
    • Ethernet Port 1: LAN port only, for connecting local devices.
    • Ethernet Port 2: LAN/WAN port. By default, it functions as a LAN port. In Wireless Router mode, it can be used as a WAN port to connect to a DSL/cable modem or Ethernet outlet.
  • SIM Card Slot: Nano SIM Card Slot.
  • Operating Temperature: 0°C~40°C (32°F~104°F).
  • Power: Connects to a power adapter (provided with the router).

Usage Features:

The MB230-4G supports two primary operation modes: 3G/4G Router Mode and Wireless Router Mode.

  • 3G/4G Router Mode (Default):

    • Allows immediate internet sharing by inserting a Nano SIM card.
    • LED indicators on the side panel provide status updates:
      • Blinking Green: Starting up, upgrading firmware, or establishing WPS connection.
      • Solid Green: Working properly.
      • Solid Orange: Wi-Fi is off.
      • Off: Power is off.
      • On (device icon): Device is connected.
      • Blinking (device icon): Device is connecting.
      • Off (device icon): No device is connected.
      • Signal Strength LEDs (Yul): Indicate mobile internet signal strength; more lit LEDs signify better signal.
    • Positioning: For optimal Wi-Fi performance and strong mobile internet signal, place the router away from moisture, excessive heat, strong electromagnetic radiation, and obstacles like concrete structures.
    • SIM Card Management:
      • PIN Management: Protects the SIM card with a PIN. Users can enable/disable PIN Lock, set a new PIN, and use Auto-unlock PIN for automatic validation. PUK (Personal Unlock Code) is available for resetting forgotten PINs.
      • USSD: Allows communication with the service provider using short codes for various services.
    • Data Settings: Monitors real-time data usage, sets monthly or total data allowances, and provides usage alerts to prevent overuse. The router can disconnect from the internet if data usage exceeds the set limit.
    • Connection Profiles: Users can create custom internet connection profiles if ISP settings are not automatically detected, specifying Profile Name, Username, Password, PDP Type, APN Type, and Authentication Type.
    • ISP Information Upgrade: Allows users to download and install the latest ISP upgrade files from the Mercusys website to ensure proper internet access if ISP settings are not detected.
  • Wireless Router Mode:

    • Configures the device as a regular wireless router, connecting to a modem or Ethernet outlet via Ethernet Port 2 (WAN port).
    • 3G/4G Backup: In this mode, the 3G/4G network can be used as a backup solution if the primary internet service fails.
    • IPTV Support: The router can be set up for an IPTV connection in wireless router mode.
  • General Network Management:

    • Web-based Utility: Easy configuration and management via a web browser (e.g., Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari) on any Windows, Macintosh, or UNIX OS. Access is via http://mwlogin.net.
    • Mercusys Cloud Service: Enables remote monitoring and management of Mercusys devices from the internet. Users can register a Mercusys ID and bind it as an Admin or User account. Admin accounts have full control, while User accounts can monitor and manage but cannot reset to factory defaults or add/remove other Mercusys IDs.
    • Guest Network: Creates a separate Wi-Fi network for guests, ensuring main network security and privacy. Customizable options include SSID, security type (WPA/WPA2 Personal recommended), and permissions (e.g., allowing guests to see each other or access the local network).
    • NAT Forwarding:
      • Port Forwarding: Allows external hosts to access specific services (e.g., HTTP, FTP) on devices within the local network by forwarding traffic to specified internal IP addresses and ports.
      • Port Triggering: Dynamically opens external ports when a local host initiates a connection to a triggering port, useful for online games, VoIPs, and video players.
      • DMZ (Demilitarized Zone): Exposes a specific local device entirely to the internet, opening all its ports. Useful for applications where specific port configurations are unclear, but carries potential security risks if not managed carefully.
      • UPnP (Universal Plug and Play): Automatically opens corresponding ports for applications or host devices (e.g., Xbox for online gaming, peer-to-peer connections, real-time communication). Enabled by default.
    • QoS (Quality of Service): Prioritizes internet traffic for specific devices or applications, allowing users to set maximum upload and download bandwidth and prioritize certain devices.
    • IPv6 Support: Enables IPv6 functionality and allows configuration of WAN and LAN parameters for IPv6 connections, supporting Router and Pass-Through (Bridge) modes, and connection types like Normal, PPPoE, and Tunnel 6to4.
    • LAN Settings: Allows changing the router's LAN IP address and Subnet Mask, and configuring the router as a DHCP server to assign IP addresses to clients within a specified pool and lease time. Also supports reserving specific IP addresses for devices.
    • Wireless Settings: Customizes wireless network name (SSID), password, and security options (WPA/WPA2 Personal, WPA/WPA2 Enterprise, WEP). Supports Smart Connect (automatic band switching), hiding SSID, and selecting wireless modes (e.g., 802.11g/n mixed) and channels.
    • WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup): Simplifies adding new wireless devices to the network using either the WPS button or by entering a PIN on the router or client device.
    • Wireless Schedule: Automatically turns off the wireless network during specified times.
    • Dynamic DNS (DDNS): Assigns a fixed host and domain name to a dynamic Internet IP address, useful for hosting websites or servers behind the router. Supports Mercusys, Dyndns, and NO-IP services.
    • Static Routes: Configures pre-determined paths for network information to travel to specific hosts or networks, useful for complex network setups.

Maintenance Features:

  • Firmware Update: MERCUSYS regularly releases firmware updates to improve features and network experience. Updates can be performed online (checking for new versions) or locally (downloading from the Mercusys website).
  • Backup and Restore Configuration: Allows users to save current router settings to a configuration file on their computer for future use and restore previous settings from a backup file.
  • Factory Default Restore: Resets the router to its original factory settings, erasing all current configurations. This can be done via the WPS/RESET button or through the web management page.
  • Reboot: Cleans the router's cache to enhance performance. Can be done manually or scheduled to reboot automatically at specific times.
  • Administrator Account Management: Allows changing the password for logging into the router's web-based management page.
  • Local Management: Controls which local devices are authorized to manage the router, allowing for specific IP/MAC address restrictions or enabling access for all devices. Supports management via HTTP and HTTPS.
  • Remote Management: Allows remote devices to manage the router over the internet. Can be enabled/disabled and configured with specific IP/MAC address restrictions.
  • System Log: Provides a detailed record of system activities, useful for troubleshooting malfunctions. Logs can be viewed, refreshed, saved to a local file, or cleared.
  • CWMP (CPE WAN Management Protocol/TR-069): Allows an Auto-Configuration Server (ACS) to perform auto-configuration, provision, connection, and diagnostics on the device, as per ISP instructions.
  • Internet Connectivity Test: Provides a diagnostic tool (Ping) to help locate and troubleshoot network connectivity problems.

Safety Information:

  • Keep the device away from water, fire, humidity, or hot environments.
  • Do not attempt to disassemble, repair, or modify the device.
  • Use only the power adapter provided by the manufacturer.
  • Do not use damaged chargers or USB cables.
  • Avoid using the device where wireless devices are not allowed.
  • The adapter should be installed near the equipment and be easily accessible.

  • UK: Complies with Radio Equipment Regulations 2017.
  • Frequency Band 5150 - 5250 MHz: Indoor use only (inside buildings, road vehicles, train carriages). Limited outdoor use (not attached to fixed installations, external body of road vehicles, fixed infrastructure, or outdoor antenna). Use by unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) limited to within the 5170-5250 MHz band.
  • Great Britain: Device may only be used indoors.
