Do you have a question about the Metrohm 803 Ti Stand and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The 803 Ti Stand is a crucial component of the Titrando system, primarily designed for volumetric Karl Fischer titration. This instrument integrates a magnetic stirrer and a built-in pump, enhancing the efficiency and convenience of titration processes. Its direct connection to the Titrando via an MSB connection cable ensures seamless communication and operation within the system.

Function Description:

The core function of the 803 Ti Stand is to facilitate volumetric Karl Fischer titration. The integrated magnetic stirrer ensures homogeneous mixing of the sample and reagents within the titration cell, which is critical for accurate and reproducible results. The built-in membrane pump is a key feature, allowing for the aspiration of titered-out solutions and the addition of fresh solvent without the need to open the titration cell. This capability significantly reduces exposure to atmospheric moisture, a common source of error in Karl Fischer titrations, and streamlines the workflow. The instrument features two keys on its front panel: one for pumping air into the solvent bottle to push solvent into the KF titration cell, and another for aspirating air out of the aspiration bottle, creating a vacuum to draw liquid from the KF titration cell into the suction bottle. An LED function display indicates when the stirrer is active.

Usage Features:

The 803 Ti Stand is designed for indoor operation and should be placed in a well-ventilated laboratory location, free from vibrations, corrosive atmospheres, and chemical contamination. It must be protected from excessive temperature fluctuations and direct sunlight. The instrument's design allows for easy mounting of the KF titration cell, including a support rod and clamping ring for secure positioning. The height of the KF titration cell can be adjusted by pressing a locking lever, ensuring the stirrer almost touches the surface of the liquid. The entire cell can also be raised and swiveled as needed. Connecting the 803 Ti Stand involves plugging its MSB connection cable into one of the MSB sockets on the rear of the control device. Optionally, additional devices like a Dosimat or Dosino can be connected to the MSB connector on the titration stand itself. The system supports automatic reagent exchange, which is facilitated by various accessories such as tubing adapters, threaded stoppers, PTFE and PVC tubing, bottle attachments, cannulas, aspiration and transfer tips, and adsorber tubes. The process of mounting the waste and solvent bottles is clearly outlined, including specific instructions for equipping bottle attachments with stoppers, tubing, and overflow protection. Different types of reagent bottles with GL45 threads are compatible, with specific bottle attachments available for various brands like MERCK, FLUKA, RIEDEL DE HAEN, and BAKER.

Maintenance Features:

Regular checks are essential for maintaining the instrument's performance and safety. All system connections should be periodically checked for leaks, especially when working with flammable and/or toxic fluids. The waste bottle, which collects aspirated solutions, should be emptied periodically to prevent overflow and ensure continuous operation. In case of issues like solvent being added during aspiration, the drying tube should be checked for blockages; remedies include enlarging the hole of the drying tube cover or refilling the drying tube without packing it too tightly. If the pump conveys no liquid, the bottle attachments should be checked for tightness, and all connections for leak-tightness. If solvent flows into the titration vessel without the add key being pressed, the solvent bottle's setup should be adjusted so that the liquid level is lower than that in the titration vessel. The documentation emphasizes that only Metrohm-qualified personnel are authorized to carry out service work on electronic components, and the housing should never be opened by the user. The instrument is also designed for proper recycling and disposal in accordance with European Directive 2012/19/EU (WEEE). Users are encouraged to download the accessories list from the Metrohm website for reference and to ensure they have the correct components for their specific applications.
