Do you have a question about the Microlife BP3KV1-5K and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The Microlife BP3KV1-5K is an upper arm blood pressure monitor designed for adult individuals to measure systolic and diastolic blood pressure and pulse rate using a non-invasive oscillometric technique. It features an inflatable cuff suitable for arm circumferences ranging from 22 to 42 cm. The device can detect irregular heartbeats during measurement and provides a warning signal with the reading if detected. It also offers connectivity with a smartphone running a dedicated app, allowing memory data to be transferred via Bluetooth.

Function Description:

The device operates with an ON/OFF button (1), a display (2), an M button for memory functions (3), a Bluetooth/Time button (4), and a User button (5). The cuff connects to the device via a cuff socket (6) and a cuff connector (14). A MAM switch (7) allows selection between standard and MAM (Microlife Average Mode) measurement modes. A Traffic LED Light indicator (8) provides a visual representation of blood pressure levels. The device includes a USB Port (9) and a Mains Adapter Socket (10) for power options, in addition to a Battery Compartment (11) for battery operation. The cuff (12) and cuff tube (13) are integral to the measurement process.

Display Features:

The display shows various indicators: Active Bluetooth (15), Systolic Value (16), Diastolic Value (17), Pulse Rate (18), and Battery Display (19). The Cuff Fit Check (20) provides feedback on cuff placement, with specific indicators for suboptimal fit (20-A), arm movement (20-B), and cuff pressure issues (20-C). Other indicators include Cuff Signal Indicator (21), Irregular Heartbeat Indicator (IHB) (22), User indicator (23), MAM Mode (24), Stored Value (25), Clinical Blood Pressure Average «MyBP» (26), Date/Time (27), Pulse Indicator (28), Average Indicator «MyCheck» (29), and MAM Interval Time (30).

Usage Features:

  • First-time setup: Involves inserting 4 x 1.5 V AA batteries, setting the date and time, selecting the appropriate cuff size (S: 17-22 cm, M: 22-32 cm, M-L: 22-42 cm, L: 32-42 cm, L-XL: 32-52 cm), and choosing a user (User 1 or User 2).
  • Measurement modes: Users can select between standard (single measurement) or MAM mode (automatic double measurement). MAM mode takes two successive measurements and averages them for a more reliable result.
  • Reliable measurement checklist: Emphasizes avoiding activity, eating, or smoking before measurement, sitting for 5 minutes, measuring on the same arm, removing tight garments, ensuring correct cuff size and placement (2 cm above elbow, artery mark over artery), supporting the arm, and keeping the cuff at heart height.
  • Taking a measurement: Press ON/OFF button (1) to start. The cuff inflates automatically. Users should relax, remain still, and breathe normally. The cuff fit check (20) confirms proper placement. The device displays systolic (16), diastolic (17) blood pressure, pulse rate (18), cuff fit check (20), and MyCheck (29).
  • Manual inflation: For high systolic blood pressure (e.g., above 135mmHg), users can manually set pressure by pressing and holding ON/OFF button (1) until the desired pressure (approx. 40 mmHg above expected systolic value) is reached.
  • Deleting a reading: After a reading is displayed, press and hold ON/OFF button (1) until «M» (25) flashes, then press Bluetooth/Time button (4) to confirm deletion.
  • Blood pressure evaluation: The Traffic LED Light indicator (8) categorizes blood pressure as optimum (green), elevated (yellow), or high (red) based on ACC, AHA 2017 Guidelines.
  • MyCheck indicator (29): Shows if the current measurement is below, above, or at the same level as the stored average value.
  • Irregular Heartbeat Indicator (IHB) (22): Appears if pulse irregularities are detected. It's recommended to repeat the measurement in MAM mode and consult a doctor if it appears regularly.
  • Data memory: Stores up to 99 measurement values for each of the 2 users. Users can view the average of the last 28 days («M» 25 and «28A»), the clinical blood pressure average «MyBP» (26) (calculated from morning/evening measurements over 28 days), and stored single values.
  • Clearing all values: Hold the Memory button (3) until «CL» appears, then press Memory button (3) again.
  • Medication reminder: Allows setting two daily alarm times for medication or consistent measurement times.
  • Battery indicator: Displays battery status (19) for low or flat batteries.
  • Power options: Can be operated with 4 x AA alkaline batteries or a Microlife mains adapter (DC 6V, 600 mA). Rechargeable NiMH batteries can also be used but must be removed for external charging.
  • Bluetooth® function: Transfers data to the «Microlife Connected Health+» App on a smartphone. The Bluetooth® icon (15) indicates connection status (slow blinking for waiting, solid for established, rapid blinking for error). Pairing involves matching MAC IDs and a 6-digit Passkey for the first connection.
  • PC-Link functions: Compatible with Microlife Blood Pressure Analyser (BPA+) software for transferring data to a PC via a Micro-USB cable.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning: Clean the device with a soft, dry cloth. Clean the cuff with a damp cloth and soapsuds. For disinfection, rub 70% Isopropyl alcohol on the cuff surface before using after another user. Do not wash the cuff in a washing machine or dishwasher.
  • Battery replacement: When batteries are flat, replace all 4 x 1.5 V AA alkaline batteries, observing correct polarity. Date and time must be reset after battery replacement.
  • Storage: Remove batteries if the device will not be used for a prolonged period. Store within specified temperature and humidity ranges, away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and moisture.
  • Accuracy test: Recommended every 2 years or after mechanical impact. Contact Microlife-Service for testing.
  • Disposal: Dispose of batteries and electronic instruments according to local regulations, not with domestic waste.
