Overview

The Mile Marker Rhino Pull 1000 (PN 71-1000) is a portable electric winch designed for lifting and pulling applications. This manual provides comprehensive instructions for its installation, operation, and maintenance, along with crucial safety warnings.

Function Description:

The Rhino Pull 1000 is a versatile portable electric winch capable of lifting and pulling loads up to 1000 lbs (454 kg). It features a variable speed switch, a directional switch for forward and reverse drum rotation, and a power switch. The winch is powered by a rechargeable lithium battery, making it suitable for use in various environments where a fixed power source might not be available. It can be operated using either a wired or wireless remote control, offering flexibility and convenience during operation. The device is equipped with a display screen that shows battery power, winding status, and error codes, providing real-time feedback to the user.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Rated Line Pull: 1000 lbs. (454 kgs)
  • Battery Power Supply: 24V DC
  • Rope: 5 mm X 12 m (approximately 16.4 ft of usable rope, with a maximum usable length of 11.5m or 37.5 ft)
  • Battery Type: Lithium Battery
  • Battery Capacity: 2.5AH
  • Battery Charger Input: 100-240V AC 50-60 Hz 75 W
  • Battery Charger Output: 30 V = 2000 mA
  • Dimensions: 24" X 10" X 10.5" (610 mm X 256 mm X 267 mm)
  • Net Weight: 16.8 lbs. (7.6 kgs)

Usage Features:

The winch is designed for ease of use with several operational features:

  • Controls: It includes a Variable Speed Switch, Direction Switch, and Power Switch on the unit itself. For remote operation, both wired and wireless remote controls are provided.
  • Display Screen: The display shows battery power (three green grids for full, two green for 40-70%, one red for low), winding direction (Winding Out/In), and error codes for various issues like overload, overheating, or maximum current.
  • Battery Installation: The battery is installed by aligning it with the battery slot and sliding it in until it locks. Removal involves pressing the battery release button. The power switch should be in the "OFF/0" position during installation and removal.
  • Charging: The winch uses a dedicated charger. A red light indicates charging, and a green light indicates a full charge. Charging takes approximately two hours. It's crucial not to operate the winch while charging and to ensure the battery is at room temperature before use.
  • Remote Control:
    • Wired Remote: Connects via a 4-pin socket to the remote and a 5-pin socket to the winch. Operation is via IN or OUT buttons.
    • Wireless Remote: Activated by pressing and holding the ON/OFF button for 2-3 seconds (red LED flashes). It automatically stops after 3 minutes of inactivity or by holding the ON/OFF button for 3 seconds. It also features Winch OUT and Winch IN buttons.
    • Resetting Learning Function: If a new wireless transmitter is needed, the winch can be put into a learning mode by holding the ON/OFF button (winch off) and then turning on the winch until two arrow marks appear on the LED screen.
    • Battery Replacement (Wireless Remote): Involves removing four screws, separating the cover, replacing the battery, and reassembling.
  • Operation Steps (Single Rope):
    1. Wear gloves and attach the strap to the hook.
    2. Install the battery with the power switch in "OFF/0" and then turn the power switch to "ON/I".
    3. Spool out rope by pressing the directional switch (▲) and holding the speed controller, maintaining tension to prevent binding. Do not spool past the red paint mark.
    4. Secure an anchor point using the swiveling anchor hook. Use a tree saver or choker chain.
    5. Attach the load using a shackle or strap, ensuring the hook latch is secure.
    6. Give the rope tension by pressing the directional switch (▼) and slowly winding the rope until tight.
    7. When pulling, place a damper or heavy material over the rope.
    8. Plan the pull/lift, ensuring connections are secure and the pulling direction is straight.
    9. Start pulling/lifting by pressing the directional switch (▼) and holding the speed controller. Do not exceed the rated pulling capacity. A snatch block can be used to reduce the load.
    10. Disconnect the hook from the load and anchor point after securing the load. Release tension by pressing the directional switch (▲) and holding the speed controller.
    11. Rewind the rope by pressing the directional switch (▼) and holding the speed controller, maintaining tension.
    12. Turn off the power switch ("OFF/0") and store the tool in a clean, dry place.
  • Protection System: The system automatically enters protection mode under certain conditions:
    • Overload (80% of pulling capacity, indicated by "Sign !" or "Code 1" at 90%).
    • Overheating (motor temperature reaches maximum, indicated by "Code 2").
    • Low battery.
    • Maximum current reached (fuse brakes, indicated by "Code 3").
    • Stopping limit reached (indicated by "Code 4").
    • Battery temperature reaches set protection temperature.
    • In such cases, the user should turn off the power, remove the battery, address the issue (reduce load, allow cooling, charge battery, contact service), reinstall the battery, and restart.

Maintenance Features:

  • General Maintenance: Both the portable winch, accessories, and rope require careful maintenance to prevent damage and wear.
  • Rope Inspection: The rope should be inspected regularly. Damaged rope should not be used and should be replaced as soon as possible.
  • Battery and Winch Component Inspection: Battery components and winch parts should be regularly inspected for damage and replaced if necessary.
  • Battery Charging: Charge the battery before it runs out completely to extend its life. Charge the battery every six months if not in use.
  • Storage: Store the winch in a clean and dry place, away from heat sources.
  • Troubleshooting: A dedicated troubleshooting section helps diagnose and resolve common issues, such as product failure lights, stopping due to high temperature or overload, drum sound during winding, and charging problems. Solutions range from checking battery power and reducing load to contacting customer service or returning the unit for repair.
  • Disposal/Recycling: Waste batteries should be disposed of according to local laws and regulations.
