Usage Features
The manual details how to use both the cooktop burners and the oven:
- Cooktop Burner Ignition: To ignite a top burner, press the lighter button and simultaneously press and rotate the knob counterclockwise to the big fire icon. Flame intensity can be adjusted by rotating the knob between the small and big flame icons. To turn off, rotate the knob to the extinguished flame icon.
- Cooktop Utensil Matching: Users are advised to match the diameter of the cooking utensil with the burner size to conserve gas and reduce cooking time. Wider bottom utensils cook faster.
- Oven Bottom Burner Ignition (Manual): Open the oven door, ignite a match, bring it to the hole at the bottom center of the oven, while pressing and rotating the oven burner knob to the desired temperature. For models without an automatic thermostat, set to maximum fire. Verify the burner is lit through the holes.
- Oven Temperature Adjustment: Rotate the oven knob to the number indicating the desired temperature. A table is provided to convert knob numbers to attainable temperatures in Celsius (ranging from 145°C to 275°C).
- Oven Top Burner (Grill) Ignition (Manual): Open the oven door, ignite a match, bring it to the top burner/grill, while pressing and rotating the oven burner knob to the desired temperature. Verify the burner is lit.
- Oven Usage: For even heat distribution, light the bottom burner/oven and let it preheat for about 10 minutes. Place ingredients on the oven shelf. Adjust temperature as needed. The cooking process can be observed through the oven window using the oven lamp (if available). For models without an oven lamp, opening the door is necessary, but should be minimized to maintain oven temperature. Drip pans are for collecting oil during grilling, not for cooking.
- Turnspit Usage: For models with a turnspit, install the knob protector. Turn on the top burner/oven and preheat for 5 minutes. Skewer meat onto the turnspit and hang it between the supporting forks in the oven. Place a drip tray with 0.5 cm of water on the bottom shelf to prevent oil from sticking. Insert the turnspit into the special socket at the back of the oven. Release the plastic handle. Close the oven door slowly, leaving it leaning on the knob protector. Turn on the griller motor/turnspit by pressing the trident icon. Turn off the motor and reattach the plastic handle before removing the turnspit.
- Mechanical Timer: Adjust cooking time by rotating the mechanical timer knob (maximum 60 minutes). An alarm sounds when the timer finishes.
- Shelf Position: The manual provides guidance on ideal shelf positions for different types of cooking: first shelf for tarts, second shelf for pastries and cookies, and third shelf for grilling.
- Temperature Conversion: A table is provided to convert Fahrenheit to Celsius for baking temperatures.
Maintenance Features
The manual outlines simple maintenance procedures to ensure the longevity and quality of the gas stove:
- General: MODENA Gas Stoves are designed for long-term use with minimal complicated maintenance.
- Enamel Parts: Wash with a sponge and warm soapy water, then dry. Avoid abrasive detergents. Enameled grid parts can be washed or put in a dishwasher.
- Stainless Steel Parts: Clean with a wet cloth or a specialized stainless steel cleaning chemical, then dry with a soft leather cloth.
- Burner: Remove burners, clean with soapy water, dry completely, and reinstall them correctly.
- Lighter and Gas Safety Device: Clean these components after cooking, especially if there are spills from pans.
- Routine Service: It is recommended to perform routine service every 3 months to identify and repair any abnormalities.
Safety Warnings and Precautions:
- If unsure about installation, contact the MODENA Service Center.
- Use required supporting equipment: LPG cylinder, standard gas supply hose with safety leak equipment, hose clamp, low-pressure gas regulator, and gas lighter.
- Ensure proper room ventilation to prevent gas accumulation and imperfect flame.
- Prepare an easily accessible electrical socket.
- Use standardized hoses and regulators to prevent gas leaks and explosions. Do not use high-pressure regulators.
- Gas hoses must not touch hot oven walls.
- Perform a gas leakage test using soap water on connections after installation. If bubbles appear, disconnect the regulator, secure the hose clamp, and retest. This test should be done by a certified technician or MODENA Service Center officer.
- For models with a gas cylinder compartment, install the cross iron correctly.
- Remove all stainless steel covers on stainless steel models before use.
- Ensure electrical voltage matches specified requirements.
- If gas smell is detected, immediately remove the regulator from the gas cylinder, do not light any fire, and contact MODENA Service Center.
- Always turn down or turn off the fire before lifting a pan.
- Handle oil and fat carefully during cooking to prevent ignition.
- Do not close the stove cover when burners are hot or utensils are on the grid.
- Regularly inspect the regulator and gas hose for damage or bends, and ensure they are away from hot surfaces.
- For ovens without fans, a Protective Knob MUST be installed when using the grill burner.
- Smoke may be generated when using the top burner for the first time due to oil residue; allow it to burn off before cooking.
- Maximum cooking time with oven bottom heating or grill is 180 minutes.
- Maximum cooking time with oven twin flames (bottom heating element and grill together) is 20 minutes.
- Stove parts and surrounding objects will remain hot for about 30 minutes after shutdown.
