I. Inspect empennage attachment brackets and
hardware for corrosion.
8. FLIGHT CONTROL INSPECTION.
A. Inspect control column and control wheels for
full travel, proper rigging, free- play, binding, security of
mounting, proper lubrication and proper direction of
control surface movement with relation to control wheel
movement.
-CAUTION-
All flight control components should be in-
spected to verify that all moisture drain holes
are free of obstructions.
B. Inspect elevator system for damage, corrosion,
lubrication, rigging, travel, stop adjustment, condition
of bearings, pivots, bellcranks, & hinges; wear on down
spring eyes, cable pulley and fittings; security of mount-
ing and proper relation to control movement.
C. Inspect aileron system linkage for damage, cor-
rosion, lubrication, rigging, travel, stop adjustment,
condition of bellcranks, pivots and rod end bearings,
link bolt security and proper relation to control move-
ment.
D. Inspect rudder system linkage for damage, cor-
rosion, lubrication, rigging, condition of hinges, bell-
cranks, pivots and rod- end bearings, link bolt security
and proper relation to control movement. Check for free
movement of toe- brake pedals and proper rudder and
nose wheel travel.
E. Inspect stabiliz
er trim control system for security
and proper adjustment, shaft and stop nuts for proper
rigging, trim control wheel for smooth operation, univer-
sal joints for free- play and good working order , attach-
ing hardware orientation to avoid scoring of trim tube,
actuator threads for lubrication, linkage for corrosion,
and guide blocks for looseness or excessive wear. See
SECTION 27-42-00 for Electric Trim System bearing
maintenance.
F. Check flap system for rigging actuator, push/pull
tubes for rigging, travel, and stop adjustment. Check
flap position indicator for proper operation. Inspect ac-
tuator, push/pull tubes, flap rods, interconnects, hinges
and bellcranks for corrosion, security, and lubrication.
-NOTE-
All control rigging inspections should be made
with the aircraft jacked and leveled
(Per Chapter 7).
-NOTE-
Some elevator trim tubes have poly tape wrapped
at bulkhead penetrations. If tape shows signs of
wear, re- wrap tube with 2” wide Y9265 polyure-
thane tape (1/2 tape overlap). Trim tubes, without
tape, which show signs of abrading bulkhead
grommet should be wrapped. See Service
Bulletin M20-185.
MAX. TUBE WEAR- .007 in. wall thickness or .014 in.
diameter reduction.
G. G1000 GFC700 AFCS System - (if equipped)
Complete Visual Inspection.
1. Remove the access panels according to Service
& Maintenance documentation.
2. Inspect the servos, connectors, support struc-
tures, and control cables to ensure that no corrosion,
chaffing, cracks, or other defects exist.
3. Manually move the ailerons (for roll servo), ele-
vators (for pitch servo), elevator trim wheel (for pitch
trim servo), and rudder pedals (for yaw servo) from stop
to stop and observe the servo, capstan, and control
surface rigging. Ensure there is no binding in the control
cabling, and that the capstan pulleys rotate freely.
4. Check the servo control cables to ensure no
fraying, corrosion, or other damage exists. Replace the
cable if the condition is questionable. Check the ten-
sion of each servo control cable. Refer to the OEM
Maintenance documentation for cable tension speci-
fications.
5. Inspect the GFC 700 system wiring to ensure no
chaffing, wear, or other damage exists.
H. G1000 GFC700 AFCS Flap Discrete Function
Test - (if equipped) Test Flap-in-motion discrete inputs
to the G1000 to verify proper operation.
I. G1000 GSA 81 Servos - (if equipped) Clean and
apply Aeroshell 33MS or Aeroshell 17 grease to output
gears.
J. G1000 GSM 8X Servo Mounts - (if equipped)
Check slip clutch torque (replace if necessary see
Chapter 22). Refer to the Garmin Service Manual for
M20V more detailed Information.
9. INSTRUMENT INSPECTION (ref. FAR 91.411
and FAR 91.413).
A. Inspect all instrument wiring and plumbing for
condition and proper connections.
B. Inspect all instruments for proper pointer indica-
tion, range and limit markings, condition of indicator
markings, cracked or loose glass, slippage marks, and
security of installation.
C. Inspect compass for proper lighting, compensa-
tion, security of mounting, liquid leakage and
discolor-
ation. Swing compass at annual inspection and after
any new equipment has been installed. Degaussing tu-
bular structure may be necessary if compass will not
compensate within 10. See Section 33- 22- 00 for de-
gaussing instructions.
D. Inspect altimeter for scale error, discolored
markings, proper pointer readings, setting knob free-
dom and synchronization of barometric scale with ref-
erence markers.
