From engine right side (Fig. 71- 1):
1. Install crossover pipe. Leave crossover pipe stabi-
lizer brack
et attaching hardware off until remaining
connections are made up (also refer to Chapter 78).
From engine left side:
2. Connect crossover pipe to wastegate slip joint.
Connect wastegate/crossover pipe assembly to slip
joints at exhaust pipe connections on engine left and
right sides.
3. Install new gasket at wastegate/exhaust pipe
flange connection. Align wastegate flange to exhaust
pipe flange using new bolts. Do not install nuts at this
time.
4. Install V- band clamp on exhaust pipe to turbine
connection. Verify
alignment of exhaust pipe to turbine.
Torque V- bland clamps (ref. 81- 30- 01 - INSPEC-
TION “V” BAND CLAMP) and safety.
-NOTE-
Tailpipe V- Band clamps shall be repl aced with a
new clamp after two (2) removals or as refer-
enced in Chapter 04 and 05 of this Service &
Maintenance Manual. Complete Form QA 1027M
for V- Band clamp installation and insert into
aircraft log b ook, as required.
5. Install new nuts on wastegate to exhaust pipe
flange attaching bolts. Torque per CMI specifications.
6. Reattach oil inlet line.
7. Reattach oil breather line and tighten clamps.
From engine right side:
8. Tighten crossover pipe stabilizer bracket attaching
hardware so that no vertical movement is evident in at-
taching hardware but enough horizontal play remains
to allow thermal expansion movement of crossover
pipe on bracket.
Engine installation torque values are as follows:
1. Spark plugs - 300 to 420 inch lbs.
2. Hose clamps - 15 to 25 inch lbs.
3. Engine shock mount bolts - 450 to 500 inch lbs.
4. 1/4 inch upper engine mount to fuselage bolts - 50
to 70 inch lbs., or 5/16 inch upper engine mount to fuse-
lage bolts - 100 to 140 inch lbs.
5. #10- 32 lower engine mount attach block to fuse-
lage - 20 to 25 inch lbs; 1/4 inch lower mount bolt torque
- 50to70inchlbs.
Re- inspect to see that:
1. Propeller and spinner are properly torqued.
2. Engine mounting bolts are properly torqued.
3. Engine controls are properly rigged and safetied
(Ref. Chapter 76). Recheck
rod- ends for proper thread
grip length.
4. Oil drain plugs are tightened and safetied.
5. Oil sump is filled to eight quarts.
6. Spark plugs are tight and ignition harness is prop-
erly installed.
7. Magneto ground wires are properly installed and
safetied.
8. Oil temperature bulb/connections are tight and
safetied.
9. Oil pressure relief valve plug is safetied.
10. Cylinder head temperature connections are se-
cure.
11. Starter cable connection is secure.
12. Alternator wiring is secure.
13. Exhaust system is secure.
14. Fuel connections are tight and pressure checked.
15. Manifold pressure lines are tight.
16. Oil pressure lines are tight and pressure
checked.
17. Fuel injection lines are tight and pressure
checked.
18. Oil filter is installed and secure.
19. Induction manifold is secure.
20. All lines, hoses and wires are properly anchored.
21. Induction air filter is installed and secure.
22. Engine cooling baffles are in place and secure.
23. Engine area is free of loose objects, tools, etc.
24. Cowling is installed and secure after completion
of engine install and set- up (See Chapter 71-11-00).
-NOTE-
All engine baffle seals should be replaced at en-
gine overhaul or when new engine is installed.
Good sealing is critical for proper engine
cooling. Any baffle seal that is worn or cracked
should be replaced or repaired.
71-00-40 - ENGINE GROUND OPERATION
CHECKOUT
1. Pre- starting procedure (with aircraft headed into
wind):
A. Turn ignition switch - OFF.
B. Check magneto ground connections.
C. Check engine oil level.
D. Check fuel quantity.
E. Operate all controls through full range to check
for binding.
F. Check baffles and cowling for security.
G. Drain fuel sumps and gascolator; check for sed-
iment and water.
H. Place wheel chocks and set parking brake.
2. Starting procedure (NORMAL STARTS):
A. Set propeller governor control: FULL FWD.
(HIGH RPM).
