Check the spark plug wire for looseness, and connect and tighten it if needed. A blocked fuel line or stale fuel can also cause this, so clean the fuel line and refill the tank with fresh gasoline, especially if the fuel is over thirty days old without a stabilizer. Additionally, check for a plugged vent in the gas cap and clear it. Water or dirt in the fuel system can also be a factor; drain the fuel tank and refill with fresh fuel.

  If the tines on your MTD Tiller aren't engaging, there might be a foreign object lodged in them; dislodge it. Also, check for missing tine clevis pins and replace them if necessary. Furthermore, replace the belt if it is worn and/or stretched. Refer to the controls section of the operator’s manual for proper shifting procedures and adjust the control cable (see assembly instructions).
