FELLING A TREE
#
Before felling a tree, consider carefully all
conditions including the intended direction of
the fall, the natural lean of the tree, surrounding
trees and obstacles, the wind direction and
speed.
Directional cut
N
FIG. 11
#
Cut a wedge (1/3-1/2 of tree diameter) out
of the trunk on the side which you want the
tree to fall.
Felling cut
N
FIG. 12
#
Cut into the trunk from the other side 1"- 2"/
3-6 cm above the wedge.
#
Use a felling wedge to help control felling
and prevent binding the guide bar and saw
chain in the cut.
#
Safety distance is 2.5 times the height of the
tree to fell. Be sure that nobody is in the danger
zone before and during the felling.
CUTTING PREPARED TIMBER
#
When cutting prepared, use clamps or
shocks to secure wood.
