Hydrostatic
Transmission
Fluid
and
Filter
The
hydrostatic
transmission
contains
approximately
60
ounces
of
API
classification
SH/CD
20W50
motor
oil.
For
operation
in
colder
climates,
10W40
oil
may
be
used.
Also,
a
15W50
synthetic
engine
oil
would
pro¬
vide
excellent
all
climate
performance
and
extended
time
between
oil
changes.
Use
only
filter
part
number
HG-50037.
Change
the
hydrostatic
transmission
fluid
and
filter
initially
after
10
to
20
hours
of
operation,
and
every
200
hours
of
operation
or
once
a
year
thereafter.
To
change
the
hydrostatic
transmission
fluid
and
filter:
1.
Remove
oil
filter
on
left
side
of
transaxle
and
drain
oil.
2.
Clean
around
filter
base
and
install
new
oil
filter.
Order
part
number
HG-50037.
3.
Raise
rear
of
tractor
and
remove
right
rear
wheel
by
removing
hub
cap,
cotter
pin
and
flat
washer.
4.
Level
tractor
by
blocking
rear
axle.
5.
Using
a
1/4"
alien
wrench,
remove
the
oil
level
plug
from
right
side
of
transaxle.

20.
6.
Remove
the
transmission
panel
by
removing
the
parking
brake
knob
and
truss
machine
screws.
7.
Clean
around
filler
hose
(inside
right
frame)
and
bend
hose
upward.

21.
8.
Remove
plastic
vent
from
top
of
filler
hose
and
insert
a
funnel.
Fill
transaxle
with
oil
to
the
point
of
overflowing
out
of
oil
level
hole.
9.
Replace
oil
level
plug
and
plastic
vent.
10.
Start
tractor
and
run
for
1
minute.
Recheck
oil
level.
Add
oil
if
necessary.
11.
Reassemble
in
reverse
order.
12.
Remove
the
blocks
from
under
rear
axle
and
test
the
operation
of
the
tractor.
CUTTING
BLADES
WARNING:
Protect
hands
by
using
heavy
gloves
or
a
rag
to
grasp
the
cutting
blades.
The
blades
may
be
removed
for
sharpening
or
replacement
as
follows:

only:
1.
Remove
the
bolt
and
washer
which
holds
the
blade
and
adapter
to
the
blade
spindle.
Remove
the
blade
and
adapter
from
the
blade
spindle.
2.
Remove
the
two
bolts,
lock
washers
and
nuts
holding
the
blade
to
the
adapter.
