RPR 550IS Series
TM1188 Issue 1 Page 3 - 3
INTRODUCTION
1. Section 3 provides technical descriptions in the following areas of the RPR 550IS
Series of pagers:
a) Physical Characteristics
b) Functional Description
c) Radio Board (Front End)
d) Main Board
2. The RPR 550IS Series technical description describes conditions which are common
to all three types of the pager (RPR 551IS, RPR 552IS and RPR 553IS). When the
description is only applicable to a particular pager then that pager is referred to by
name.
PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS
3. The RPR 550IS Series electronic hardware is contained on two Printed Circuit Boards
(PCBs), which are mounted one on top of the other. Electronic connection between
the two boards is as follows:
a) RPR 551IS - by means of two plugs and their corresponding sockets.
b) RPR 552IS - by means of a plug and socket and two soldered aerial connections.
c) RPR 553IS - by means of a plug and socket and two soldered aerial connections.
4. A flexible preformed connector joins the display module connections to the main board.
An exploded illustration of the hardware appears as Figure 1 and Figure 2.
5. The radio board (front end) circuit comprises the RF amplifier and oscillator stages of
the receiver. The main board contains the IF and audio circuits of the receiver, the
power supply, aerial, decoding, control, speech and display drive circuitry.
6. The case is constructed from Bayblend and is formed in two parts. The case chassis
holds the PCBs and a detachable case front holds the loudspeaker. A separate cover
on the back of the pager provides access to the battery compartment. An illustration
of the pager case is given in Section 2.
