A non-return valve must be installed in the condensate return line to prevent condensate from returning
to the heater and to protect against any hammering in the condensate system. T his applies if the
condensate return line has condensate from more than one steam trap as there could be dif fering
pressures and temperatures and/or to protect against return ow when condensate is "lifted" to the
condensate tank.
Both the inlet and outlet lines must have expansion bends to compensate for t hermal expansion. All
pipework must be independently supported close to the dehumidier to prevent strain on the steam
heater.
If the air temperature drops below +7 °C and there is a risk of freezing, a thermostat must be installed
directly after the heater in the airow direction. The thermostat must be a two-stage type with a long,
temperature s ensing capillary tube. The capillary tube is a ctive a long it s e ntire length, and must be
installed so it covers the sectional a rea efciently. The thermostat reacts to the lowest temperature
present along t he c apillary tube length, that is where the gas in the thermostat system condensates.
At the air temperature +7 °C, the reactivation effect should increase and a warning-type of alarm
be triggered. If t he temperature drops further to + 3 °C, the thermostat should switch off the
dehumidication sy stem so that the reactivation airow ceases and an alar m is trigg ered.
In addition to the above, installation of the following components is recommended to facilitate operation
and maintenance:
De-aerator to ventil
ate any oxygen or other gases in the steam supply.
Shut-off valves.
A manometer to ind
icate the steam pressure at the heater.
A thermometer, ca
pable of withstanding the line pressure, to indicate the full scale of the steam supply.
Filters t o restr
ict unwanted impurities.
An extra shut-of
f valve downstream of the condensate t rap. T his to facilitate installation of a
manometer, whi
ch would quickly indicate any counter pressure in the condensate system in the event
of any malfunct
ions during operation.
