Overview

The N-TRON 708M12 & 716M12 Industrial Ethernet Switches are fully managed switches designed for connecting Ethernet-enabled industrial and security equipment. They offer robust performance and ease of use, with features tailored for demanding environments.

Function Description

These industrial Ethernet switches facilitate network connectivity and management in industrial settings. They support various advanced features to ensure reliable and efficient data transmission, including:

  • Port Mirroring: Allows copying Ethernet frames from monitored ports to a dedicated mirroring port for analysis. Users can select to mirror only specific data or all data destined for the destination port.
  • Port Trunking: Groups two network ports to increase bandwidth and provide redundant connections between switches. This feature enhances high-speed connectivity and network resilience.
  • Quality of Service (QoS): Provides resource reservation control mechanisms to prioritize different applications, users, or data flows. It supports Force High Priority (Port Based), IEEE802.1p (Tagged QoS), and DSCP (differentiated services code points) to manage traffic priority, especially in congested networks or for real-time streaming multimedia applications.
  • Virtual LAN (VLAN): Supports tagged VLANs (Local Area Networks) for logical grouping of devices, allowing them to communicate as if on the same LAN while restricting traffic between VLANs unless explicitly configured as overlapping. The switches can add, strip, or discard VLAN tags based on configuration, supporting devices that do not inherently support VLAN tagged packets. Overlapping VLANs are supported, though RSTP is automatically disabled on all but the lowest VID VLANs with overlapping ports.
  • Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol (RSTP): Implements IEEE 802.1D-2004 to configure a loop-free active network topology. RSTP enables quicker learning of network topology changes and supports rapid transition to forwarding states, interoperating with older STP switches.
  • SNMP Traps: Supports up to five SNMP Trap Stations and five standard traps (Link Up, Link Down, Cold Start, Warm Start, Authentication Errors) for network monitoring and fault notification.
  • IGMP Snooping: Enabled by default for plug-and-play multicast support, reducing unneeded traffic. It can operate dynamically or with manual and dynamic settings, supporting IGMP versions 1 and 2.
  • N-Ring™: N-TRON's proprietary ring management technology, enabled by default for plug-and-play operation. It offers expanded ring size capacity, detailed fault diagnostics, and a fast healing time of 30ms. The N-Ring Manager periodically checks ring health and provides a detailed ring map and fault location chart via the web browser.
  • N-Link™: N-TRON's proprietary coupling management, designed for redundantly coupling N-Ring topologies to other networks. It requires four switches (Master, Slave, Primary Coupler, Standby Coupler) and monitors link status to ensure network traffic forwarding even with link failures.
  • CIP (Common Industrial Protocol): Allows direct access to switch information and configuration from Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs) using a standardized communication protocol.
  • DHCP: Can be configured as a DHCP Client, DHCP Server, DHCP Relay Agent, or both, providing configuration parameters to Internet hosts. DHCP Server supports dynamic IP address ranges, specific IP addresses based on MAC address, Client ID (Option 61), or Relay Agent connection (Option 82).
  • LLDP (Link Layer Discovery Protocol): An IEEE 802.1AB Layer 2 discovery protocol that allows devices to advertise their capabilities and store discovered information in a MIB accessible via SNMP.
  • Port Security—MAC Address Based: Restricts access to the switch by only allowing dynamically learned or manually entered MAC addresses. Unauthorized MAC addresses are discarded and logged.
  • XML Settings Download: Allows downloading XML files for specific switch configurations, covering a subset of web browser settings.
  • Rate Limiting: Controls broadcast and multicast traffic to remain below user-configured maximum limits on a per-port basis, acting as ingress filters.
