Overview

The Olympic Circumstraint is a medical device designed for temporary immobilization of infants during procedures such as circumcision, minor surgery, X-rays, and placement of scalp IVs. It is intended for use by a licensed medical practitioner.

Function Description

The primary function of the Olympic Circumstraint is to safely and temporarily immobilize an infant. This is achieved by securing the infant to a board using a system of adjustable straps. The device helps to maintain the infant in a stable position, facilitating various medical procedures. For circumcision, the device positions the infant with arms extended above the head and legs spread apart, allowing access to the genital area.

Important Technical Specifications

Weight Capacity: The Olympic Circumstraint is designed for infants weighing between 3.9-9.9 lb (1800-4500 g). Product Weight: The device itself weighs less than 2 lb (0.9 kg). Board Dimensions: The board measures 25.25 inches high x 13 inches wide x 3.5 inches deep (64.5 cm high x 33 cm wide x 8.9 cm deep). Materials:

  • Board: Made from dense, non-absorbent plastic, ensuring durability and ease of cleaning.
  • Straps: Made from quick-drying nylon with Velcro® fasteners, providing secure and adjustable immobilization. Latex-Free: Both the Circumstraint board and its straps are not made with natural rubber latex, reducing the risk of allergic reactions.

Usage Features

Immobilization Steps:

  1. Placement: Position the infant on the Circumstraint board, ensuring the straps are as near as possible to the elbows and knees.
  2. Securing Straps: Fasten the straps gently. Begin with one end of the strap on the infant's arm or leg, bringing the opposite end of the strap across the top, then snugly fasten the Velcro® strap. Circumcision Positioning:
  • For circumcision, the infant's perineum should rest against the raised platform between the legs. This elevates the genitalia for the procedure.
  • For smaller infants, a folded towel under the hips can provide additional elevation. Strap System: The device includes various strap sizes to accommodate different infant dimensions:
  • Arm Straps: Two 8-inch (20.3-cm) arm straps are included with the complete unit.
  • Leg Straps: Two 10-inch (25.4-cm) leg straps are included with the complete unit.
  • Replacement Strap Sets:
    • Regular Set (REF 50108): Includes four 8-inch (20.3-cm) arm straps and four 10-inch (25.4-cm) leg straps.
    • Long Set (REF 50109): Includes four 8-inch (20.3-cm) arm straps and four 13-inch (33-cm) leg straps, offering more length for larger infants or specific positioning needs. Safety Precautions:
  • The device is intended for temporary immobilization only.
  • Continuous observation of the infant is required when immobilized.
  • The Olympic Circumstraint is not intended to be used as a restraint device for unattended continuous observation or when immobilized.
  • Use of non-Olympic straps is not recommended as it may lead to product failure. Damage resulting from using straps purchased from other manufacturers is not covered by the product warranty.

Maintenance Features

Cleaning the Circumstraint:

  • Board: Wipe the board using disinfectant wipes.
  • Straps: Disinfect the straps by laundering or soaking them in a liquid disinfectant. Straps can also be sterilized using steam, gas, or pasteurization methods. Cleaning Agents:
  • Only liquid disinfectant should be used.
  • CAUTION: Do not heat sterilize the board. Do not use cleaning agents containing ketones, ether, or plastic solvents as they will damage the board. Storage:
  • The Circumstraint can be hung on a wall using the hole on the top of the device.
  • Multiple Circumstraints can be nested together on a shelf for compact storage.
