Do you have a question about the NEFF D64 Series and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

This document describes the NEFF D94..., D64..., D95..., D65... extractor hood, a kitchen appliance designed to extract cooking vapor and odors. It can operate in either air extraction mode or air recirculation mode, offering flexibility for different kitchen setups.

Function Description

The primary function of the NEFF extractor hood is to remove cooking vapors and odors from the kitchen environment. In air extraction mode, the air drawn in is cleaned by grease filters and then conveyed to the exterior through a pipe system. This mode requires proper ventilation to the outside. In air recirculation mode, the drawn-in air is cleaned by both grease filters and an additional odor filter before being returned to the room. This mode is suitable for installations where external ventilation is not possible or desired, but requires the installation of an odor filter.

The appliance features multiple fan settings, including an intensive mode for particularly strong odors or vapors. The lighting can be switched on and off independently of the ventilation system.

Important Technical Specifications

While specific power consumption figures are not provided, the manual emphasizes energy-saving practices. The appliance is designed for use in private households and enclosed spaces, up to an altitude of 2000 m above sea level. Its maximum weight is 40 kg, which is important for installation considerations.

For air extraction, the exhaust air duct should be installed with a gradient of at least 1° from the appliance to prevent condensation. The recommended exhaust air pipe diameter is 150 mm, though a 120 mm diameter is also mentioned with a reducing connector. The connecting cable is approximately 1.30 m long. The appliance complies with EC interference suppression regulations and is protection class 1, requiring a protective earth connection.

Safety clearances are crucial for installation. For electrical cooktops, the minimum safety clearance above must be 600 mm (for Australia and New Zealand). For gas hobs, the specific clearance depends on the hob's installation instructions, with the larger of the two clearances (hob vs. hood) always applying if both are operated together. The appliance should be installed at least 50 mm from a high-sided unit or wall if placed directly next to it.

Usage Features

The extractor hood is controlled via a set of intuitive buttons:

  • On/Off button: Switches the appliance on or off. When switched on, it automatically starts at fan setting 2.
  • Fan setting buttons (1, 2, 3): Allows selection of different fan speeds to match the amount of steam produced during cooking. Lower fan speeds consume less energy.
  • Intensive mode button (P): Activates intensive mode for strong odors. This mode automatically switches back to fan setting 3 after approximately 6 minutes.
  • Lighting button: Controls the appliance's lighting independently of the fan.

The manual advises users to switch on the appliance during cooking to prevent condensation and to select a higher fan speed in good time if large amounts of steam are produced, as this helps distribute odors less. Putting a cooking lid on also helps reduce cooking vapors and condensation.

Maintenance Features

Regular cleaning and maintenance are essential for efficient and safe operation.

Cleaning the appliance:

  • General cleaning: Surfaces should be cleaned with a damp sponge cloth and hot soapy water. Stainless steel surfaces should be cleaned in the direction of the finish. Painted surfaces, aluminum, plastic, and glass require specific cleaning methods and soft cloths. After cleaning, surfaces should be dried with a soft cloth.
  • Cleaning products: Only suitable cleaning products should be used. Harsh, abrasive, or highly caustic alkaline/acidic detergents (especially with aluminum parts like grease filters) are strictly prohibited due to the risk of explosion and surface damage. Steam or high-pressure cleaners are also forbidden due to electric shock risk.
  • Controls and lights: These should be cleaned with a damp sponge cloth and hot soapy water, then dried with a soft cloth. Wet sponge cloths should not be used to prevent electric shock.

Grease filters:

  • Regular cleaning: Grease filters should be cleaned regularly (recommended every two months) to prevent fatty deposits from catching fire and to maintain high grease removal efficiency.
  • Manual cleaning: Filters can be soaked in hot soapy water, cleaned with a brush, rinsed thoroughly, and allowed to drain. Special grease solvents are available for stubborn dirt.
  • Dishwasher cleaning: Grease filters can be placed loosely in a dishwasher at a temperature of no more than 70 °C. Heavily soiled filters should not be cleaned with other utensils. Light discoloration may occur in the dishwasher but does not affect performance.
  • Removal and fitting: The manual provides clear instructions for safely removing and fitting the grease filters, emphasizing gripping the filter from below to prevent it from falling and damaging the hob.

Odor filters (for recirculation mode):

  • In recirculation mode, an odor filter must be installed. The manual refers to the accessories section for different options and replacement information. Regular replacement of these filters is implied for maintaining effectiveness.

Safety during maintenance:

  • Always disconnect the appliance from the mains power (unplug or switch off fuse) before cleaning to prevent electric shock.
  • Allow the appliance to cool down before cleaning to prevent burns.
  • Wear protective gloves when cleaning the interior due to sharp edges.

The manual also includes a troubleshooting section for minor faults, advising users to check simple solutions before contacting customer service. For defective LED lights or power cord damage, professional assistance is required. Genuine spare parts should always be used for repairs.
