This document serves as a comprehensive guide for setting up and using the Nexar dash cam system, which includes both a road-facing dash cam and an interior-facing add-on dash cam. The Nexar system is designed to enhance road safety by recording driving incidents and connecting users to a network of other Nexar drivers for real-time road information.
Function Description
The Nexar dash cam system is a smart recording device for vehicles. Its primary function is to automatically record driving footage, both from the road ahead and from inside the car. This footage is crucial for identifying incidents and can be saved to the cloud, providing a record of events on the road. The system integrates with the Nexar app, which allows for real-time information sharing among Nexar drivers, aiming to reduce collisions and make roads safer. The road dash cam captures external views, while the interior dash cam add-on monitors the vehicle's interior, with infrared lights for night vision that are invisible to the human eye.
Usage Features
Installation and Setup:
The installation process is divided into two main parts: setting up the road dash cam and installing the interior dash cam add-on.
Road Dash Cam Installation:
- App Download: Users begin by downloading the Nexar app, available for both iPhone (nxr.cm/ios) and Android (nxr.cm/android).
- App Configuration: After downloading, the app needs to be opened, and all necessary settings must be enabled as prompted.
- Mounting the Dash Cam: The road dash cam attaches to its mount by sliding it sideways onto a rotating head.
- Power Connection: A mini USB cable from the mount is plugged into the camera's power port.
- Charging Cable Connection: A long charging cable is connected from the top port of the mount to a USB charger, which then plugs into the car's power socket.
- Initial Power-Up: Upon starting the car, the dash cam should display a green light (indicating it's on and active) and a blinking blue light (indicating it's ready for pairing).
- Mount Placement: Users are advised to choose a clean installation area on the windshield, preferably behind the rearview mirror. The mount uses a suction cup mechanism.
- Sticker Removal: The sticker from the camera's lens needs to be removed.
- Mount Adhesion: The mount's sticker is removed, pressed against the windshield, and the knob is rotated clockwise to secure it.
- Angle Adjustment: The camera's angle can be set by adjusting a screw on the side of the rotating head.
- Pairing and View Check: The final step involves following in-app instructions to pair the phone with the dash cam and checking the camera's view within the app.
Interior Dash Cam Add-on Installation:
- Cable Connection: The interior-facing dash cam's cable connects to the "Add-on" port of the road dash cam.
- Mounting: The interior dash cam mount's sticker is removed, and the mount is attached to the windshield next to the road dash cam. The lens sticker also needs to be removed.
- View Check: The Nexar app should be used to ensure the interior dash cam has a good view of the car's interior.
Once both dash cams are installed, they will automatically start recording as soon as the car begins driving.
Cable Hiding (Fine Tuning):
To maintain a tidy interior, the manual provides instructions for hiding the cable:
- Positioning: Sit in the passenger seat.
- Accessing Headliner: Gently pull down the edge of the fabric at the top of the windshield.
- Tucking Cable: Use two fingers or an installation tool to push the cable behind the ceiling fabric. Alternatively, provided cable clips can be used.
- Door Access: Open the passenger-side door.
- Inserting into Seal: Insert the cable into the door's seal.
- Floor Mat Concealment: Hide the remaining cable under the passenger's floor mat.
- Power Connection: Bring the cable close to the power socket and connect it to the USB charger.
Important Safety Note: This cable hiding method is only for vehicles without curtain airbags installed in the window frame. Using this method in vehicles with curtain airbags can interfere with their deployment and be extremely dangerous. Users are advised to check their vehicle's airbag locations if unsure. A video guide is also available at nxr.cm/hide.
Shared Car Feature:
For shared cars, all drivers should download the Nexar app and pair it with the dash cam to ensure continuous recording and functionality.
Light Indicators:
The road dash cam uses light indicators to communicate its status:
- Steady green light: On & active.
- Steady red light: Faulty camera (requires support contact).
- Blinking red light: Upgrade in progress.
- Blinking blue light: Waiting to be paired to the app.
- Steady blue light: Dash cam & app are paired.
Maintenance Features
Safety Tips and Care:
- Automatic Operation: The dash cams automatically turn on and off with the car's ignition.
- Operating Temperature: The devices are designed to function within a temperature range of -4°F to 158°F (-20°C to 70°C).
- Battery Safety: Improper battery changing can lead to device explosion.
- Cleaning: When cleaning, avoid irritating chemical solvents. Instead, use a damp paper towel or soft cloth. Keep the devices away from fire.
- Troubleshooting: If the dash cams are not working, users should not attempt repairs themselves. Instead, they should contact support at support@getnexar.com or visit the Help Center at getnexar.com/faq.
