Overview

This document provides operating instructions for a 4-burner hotplate barbecue, model number 720-0786D, with product code G4NEX, manufactured by Nexgrill. It is designed for outdoor use only and is not intended for commercial use. The manual emphasizes safety, proper assembly, and maintenance to ensure safe and efficient operation.

Function Description

The Nexgrill 4-burner hotplate barbecue is a gas-powered outdoor cooking appliance designed for grilling and cooking various foods. It features a hotplate cooking surface, four main burners, and a warming rack. The appliance is configured for use with a standard 9 kg LP (liquid propane) gas cylinder, which is not supplied with the unit. It is equipped with a pressure regulator and hose assembly for connection to the gas cylinder. The main burners are rated at 16.00 MJ/h each, with a total gas consumption of 64.00 MJ/h, providing ample heat for diverse cooking needs. The design allows for precise heat control, making it suitable for different cooking temperatures, from searing steaks to slow-cooking delicate items.

Usage Features

The barbecue is designed for ease of use and safety. Before initial use, all packaging and protective coatings must be removed. The hotplate surface comes pre-seasoned with a coating of cooking oil to prevent corrosion during shipping. For first-time use, the hotplate surface should be washed with hot, soapy water, rinsed, and dried completely before proceeding with the seasoning steps. After this initial cleaning, soap should never be used on the hotplate.

To light a burner, users must ensure all control knobs are in the "OFF" position and the gas supply from the LP cylinder is turned on. The designated burner control knob should be pushed in and turned anticlockwise while simultaneously pressing and holding the electronic ignition button. Once the burner ignites, the ignition button and knob can be released. If a burner does not light after several attempts, users should turn the knob clockwise to "OFF," wait 5 minutes for accumulated gas to dissipate, and then retry. Match lighting is also an option, using a lighting rod to ignite the burner from underneath. Once lit, burners can be adjusted between "HIGH" and "LOW" settings as desired.

The manual includes a cooking chart with recommended heat settings and approximate cooking times for various foods, such as vegetables, beef, pork, poultry, and seafood. It also provides barbecue hints, such as using a spatula instead of tongs or a fork to turn meat to prevent juices from escaping, and trimming excess fat to prevent curling. The appliance is not intended to be used as a heater, and cooking vessels should not be filled beyond the maximum fill line.

Maintenance Features

Regular care and maintenance are crucial for the barbecue's optimum performance and longevity. The manual provides detailed instructions for cleaning the hotplate surface, burners, and grease cup.

Hotplate Surface: After each use, the hotplate should be gently scraped to remove food residue with a spatula and wiped with a towel. For stuck food, hot water can be poured onto the surface to loosen residue, or ½ cup of table salt can be used as an abrasive. Following these steps, the hotplate should be re-seasoned as described in the "Seasoning Your Hotplate" section. Aluminum foil should not be used to line the hotplate or firebox base, as it can disrupt airflow and trap excessive heat.

Burners: Burner tubes should be cleaned regularly, at least once a month, especially in late summer or early fall when spiders are most active, to prevent "FLASH-BACK" fires caused by obstructions. The exterior of the burner can be cleaned with a wire brush, stubborn scale with a metal scraper, and clogged ports with a straightened paper clip. Wooden toothpicks should be avoided as they may break off and clog the port. Before cleaning, ensure the gas supply is off and the appliance is cool. Visual inspection of burner flames is recommended before each use; flames should be blue and stable with no yellow tips. If flames are not correct, burner maintenance may be required.

Grease Cup: The grease cup should be emptied and washed with a mild detergent and warm water solution after each use. It should be checked frequently to prevent excess grease accumulation and overflow.

Gas Connections: All gas connections are leak-tested at the factory, but a complete gas leak test must be performed at the installation site and periodically thereafter. A soapy water solution should be applied to all gas connections; bubbles indicate a leak. If a leak is detected, the gas supply must be shut off immediately, and leaky fittings tightened. If the leak persists, customer service should be contacted. The gas must be turned off at the cylinder supply valve when the unit is not in use.

Storage: If the appliance is stored indoors, the LP cylinder must be disconnected and removed, and stored outdoors in a well-ventilated area out of reach of children. The appliance should not be stored in the vicinity of gasoline or other flammable liquids or vapors.

The manual also includes a troubleshooting guide to address common issues such as difficulty lighting, regulator noise, insufficient heating, and abnormal burner flames, offering solutions before contacting customer service. For replacement parts, users are advised to contact Barbeques Galore customer service, providing the model number, part number, description, and quantity needed. Only factory-authorized parts should be used to avoid voiding the warranty and ensuring safe operation.
