Overview

The Ninja Woodfire™ Outdoor Grill, model OG705CO, is a versatile outdoor cooking appliance designed for household use. It combines multiple cooking functions with the unique ability to infuse food with woodfire flavor, making it suitable for a wide range of culinary applications.

Function Description

The grill offers several primary cooking functions, accessible via a control dial:

  • GRILL: This function is ideal for closed-hood cooking, providing top and bottom heat for grilling large or thick cuts of meat, frozen foods, or achieving an all-around sear. For delicate foods or lean proteins, the hood can be opened to develop char-grilled textures without overcooking.
  • SMOKER: Designed to create deep, smoky flavors, this function is used for low and slow cooking to tenderize large cuts of meat. It operates without a preheat time.
  • AIR CRISP: This function allows for achieving crispiness and crunch with minimal oil, utilizing higher fan speeds.
  • BAKE: With lower fan speeds, this function is suitable for baking cakes, treats, desserts, and more.
  • ROAST: This function is used for tenderizing meats, roasting vegetables, and other similar items.
  • REHEAT: This function helps revive leftovers by gently warming them, resulting in crispy results.
  • DEHYDRATE: This function is for dehydrating meats, fruits, and vegetables to create healthy snacks.

A key feature of this grill is the WOODFIRE FLAVOR TECHNOLOGY. This technology allows users to add a smoky flavor to food cooked using the Grill, Air Crisp, Bake, Roast, or Dehydrate functions by burning Ninja Woodfire Pellets in a dedicated smoke box. The flame icon illuminates on the display screen when this feature is activated.

The control panel includes a dial for selecting functions and powering the unit on/off, as well as buttons for adjusting temperature (TEMP) and cook time (TIME). A START/STOP button initiates or pauses cooking and can also be used to skip preheating.

Usage Features

Before first use, it's crucial to remove all packaging and tape, and wash accessories like the grill grate, flat top griddle plate, and crisper basket in warm, soapy water. The main unit and these accessories are not dishwasher safe. The manufacturer recommends running the grill on "GRILL, HI" for 20 minutes without food to remove any residues.

Handle Installation: The unit requires handle installation. The handles, marked L and R, are aligned with tabs on the base and pushed into place. Pre-assembled screws are then tightened using the included Allen wrench.

Extension Cord Usage: For outdoor use, a properly grounded 3-prong GFI outlet is required. Extension cords must be specifically rated for outdoor use, marked with "W" or "SJOW," and be of appropriate gauge (14-gauge for up to 25 feet, 12-gauge for up to 50 feet) to prevent overheating, voltage drops, and impact on cooking performance.

Grill Cover: A grill cover is provided for outdoor storage. It should be carefully placed over the grill, ensuring the side handles and control panel are covered, and secured with bungee cords. The cover should NOT be used when the unit is hot.

Smoke Box Operation: The smoke box is pre-installed on the right side of the hood. To add woodfire flavor, Ninja Woodfire Pellets are filled into the smoke box using the provided pellet scoop until full, then the lid is closed. It's important NOT to overfill the smoke box. After cooking, the smoke box should be allowed to cool completely before removing and discarding contents. Only genuine Ninja Woodfire Pellets should be used.

Cooking Process (General Steps):

  1. Place the grill on a flat, level surface.
  2. Open the hood and install the appropriate cooking surface (grill grate, crisper basket, or flat top griddle plate) and the grease tray.
  3. If using Woodfire Flavor Technology, fill the smoke box with pellets.
  4. Plug in the unit and rotate the dial to select the desired function.
  5. Press the WOODFIRE FLAVOR technology button if adding smoke flavor (not needed for Smoker function).
  6. Adjust temperature and time using the +/- buttons.
  7. Press START to begin preheating (if applicable). For functions with preheat, the unit will beep and display "ADD FOOD" when ready.
  8. Place ingredients on the cooking surface and close the hood.
  9. Cooking begins, and the timer counts down.
  10. When cook time reaches zero, the unit beeps and displays "DONE."
  11. Remove food from the grill.

Specific Function Notes:

  • Smoker: No preheat time. Ingredients are placed on the grill grate before starting.
  • Air Crisp: The crisper basket is placed on the grill grate, with its feet in designated indentations.
  • Bake: A baking dish or crisper basket should be used depending on the food type.
  • Reheat: No preheat time.
  • Dehydrate: No preheat time.

Flat Top Griddle Plate Usage: The griddle plate is interchangeable with the grill grate for all functions except Air Crisp. It is placed directly on the heating element, not on the grill grate. It is NOT dishwasher safe and becomes extremely hot, requiring long-handled utensils and protective hot pads for handling.

Maintenance Features

Thorough cleaning after each use is essential.

  • Always allow the appliance and accessories to cool completely before cleaning.
  • Unplug the grill from the power source.
  • Keep the hood open after cooking to facilitate faster cooling.

  • If food residue or grease is stuck on cooking surfaces or removable parts, soak them in warm, soapy water before cleaning.
  • Hand-wash non-stick grill grate, flat top griddle plate, and crisper basket.
  • The inner hood should be wiped down with a damp towel or cloth after each use to deodorize and remove grease.
  • NEVER use abrasive tools or cleaners.

  • The smoke box does not require cleaning, but a wire brush can be used to remove creosote if desired. Liquid cleaning solutions should NOT be used on the smoke box.

  • Do not touch or remove the smoke box until it has stopped smoking, pellets have completely burnt out, and the smoke box has cooled.
  • Do not allow pellets to overflow the pellet box, as this can lead to combustion and burn injury.
  • Do not move the appliance when in use.
  • Do not cover the air intake or outlet vents while operating.
  • Do not place anything on top of the product when the hood is closed during use or storage.
  • Do not use for deep-frying.
  • Use care when opening the grill to avoid splashes from oils or grease.
  • Always use an external food thermometer to ensure food is cooked to recommended temperatures.
  • Only use genuine food-grade wood pellets from Ninja.
  • Never use heating fuel pellets, hardwood, charcoal, liquid fuels, or any other combustible material in the Smoker.
  • Keep hands and face away from the Smoker Box when hot.
  • Always keep a fire extinguisher accessible while operating the smoker.
  • Always store wood pellets in a dry location, away from heat-producing appliances and other fuel containers.
  • Keep the grill clean to prevent excess grease or ash buildup, which can cause grease fires and taint food flavor.
  • Store indoors when not in use and use a grill cover when stored outdoors to protect from elements.
  • Do not place the appliance on hot surfaces, near hot gas or electric burners, in a heated oven, or on a stovetop.
