PROGRAM BUTTONS
The five PROGRAM buttons give you immediate access to a range of five
programs within the current program bank. The same buttons are used
to select SONG PARTS, and as soft buttons when operating menu
settings. Read more about Song Parts and the Song List mode on page
28, and about soft button functionality on page 52.
WHAT IS A PROGRAM?
A program stores and contains all settings made on Panel A and Panel
B, except for Master Level and Mono Output settings. The latter will
always be reset when the instrument is restarted. To understand the
internal architecture of the Nord Stage 3, keep the following in mind:
• For each panel, settings for all three sound engines, all effects, and the
Extern section are independent.
• A program stores the settings for both Panel A and B. It contains
independent settings for six sound engines, eight effects, and two
Extern setups.
• A program also stores all settings from the Extern menu, except the
Extern A & B MIDI channels and the Send on Load setting (read more
on this in the Extern Menu chapter on page 55), and the output
routings for each panel (read more on this on page 52).
• Splits, layers (Keyboard Zones) and Morph assignments are also part
of a Program.
SYSTEM, SOUND, MIDI, EXTERN, KB ZONES
The PROGRAM 1-5 buttons are also used to enter the four menus, and
the KB Zones editor if used in conjunction with the SHIFT button. Menu
settings are described in the Menu chapter beginning on page 52 and
the KB Zones editor is described on page 27.
PROGRAM DIAL
The PROGRAM dial to the right of the Display is used
to select programs and songs, to set menu parameter
values and to enter characters in program names.
Pressing SHIFT while turning the dial activates the LIST
function, which will display all programs or songs in a
list.
MIDI LED INDICATOR
The MIDI LED, located above the top right corner of the
display, blinks as incoming MIDI messages are received
by the MIDI In port, or through the USB connector.
M Short flashes indicates any kind of incoming MIDI data, longer
flashes indicates MIDI data that the Stage 3 actually uses (the data
has the correct MIDI channel etc.).
PAGE BUTTONS
Program pages are navigated by pressing
the PAGE 3/4 buttons. Each bank holds 20
pages, with 5 programs in each page. These
buttons can also be used for switching songs
when in Song Mode, for jumping categories
when browsing Synth presets in category mode, and for navigating
menu settings within the System, Sound, MIDI and Extern menus.
PROG LEVEL
The Program Level function provides a nice shortcut for
quickly adjusting the volume level of an entire program.
This can be handy when preparing programs for a live
performance, or for turning down the overall volume
without touching the Master Level control. Pressing
PROG LEVEL (Shift + Page 3) and turning the PRO-
GRAM dial adjusts the levels of all sound engines, across both panels, by
an equal amount.
ORGANIZE
The order in which programs, songs, synth presets, samples and piano
sounds are stored in their respective banks can be rearranged when in
List view, using the ORGANIZE function. This function behaves the same
regardless of the content being organized, but note that piano sounds
cannot be moved outside their respective Piano Type bank.
As an example, here is how programs can be organized within the pro-
gram banks:
1 Press SHIFT and turn the PROGRAM dial to enter the LIST view for
programs.
2 Use the dial to select the program which should be moved to a
different location.
3 Press and hold ORGANIZE (Shift + Page4). Two arrows indicate
that the currently selected program can be moved up or down the
list.
4 Use the PROGRAM dial to select a new location for the selected
program. Let go of ORGANIZE to complete the operation. Note
that programs located between the old and the new location are
repositioned automatically.
E Organizing content will not affect programs or Synth presets ref-
erencing the relocated content. Song List songs however - which
reference program locations - will still point to the old location of
a program, if the program is moved.
