Steps to disconnect power, water, gas, remove screws, filter, and drain unit.
Remove screw holding the circuit board and let it hang outside the unit.
Disconnect flame rod, ignition plug, freeze prevention heater, thermal fuse, high limit switch, igniter plug, and freeze prevention sensor.
Remove screws attaching manifold plate to burner and gas valve, then remove the plate.
Remove two screws on the back of the case to allow the fan to rotate out.
Remove two "C" clamps for the inlet and outlet pipes from the heat exchanger.
Remove various screws to detach the heat exchanger from the unit.
Remove ten screws holding the burner to the heat exchanger.
Transfer freeze prevention heater, sensor, high limit switch, and thermal fuse from the old to the new heat exchanger.
Place new O-rings on the cold water pipe and hot water pipe of the new heat exchanger.
Remove the old burner gasket and replace it with a new one.
Secure the burner to the heat exchanger assembly using ten screws around its perimeter.
Secure the assembly back into the unit case by fastening top and bottom screws.
Push pipes into the water valve and flow sensor, securing them with "C" clamps.
Guide the fan into place using the burner slot and tighten two screws on its sides.
Secure the manifold plate to the gas valve and burner with screws, hand-tightening them equally.
Reconnect all wires to the wiring harness and the water heater body, including the wire anchor.
Turn on the water slowly and check for leaks around the "C" clamps, re-securing if necessary.
Place the circuit board on the right side of the case and secure it with its screw.
Place the larger top cover, gasket, and smaller cover over the flue, securing with screws.
Secure the front cover with screws, turn on gas, and restore electrical power to the unit.
