What to do if my North Star NSCWHC has no soft water and the salt level isn't dropping?
    • G
      Gail HuntAug 16, 2025
If your North Star Water Dispenser isn't producing soft water and the salt level isn't dropping, the salt storage tank may be bridged. Refer to the “Breaking a Salt Bridge” section to break the bridge. Alternatively, the bypass valves may be in the “bypass” position. Move the bypass valves to the “service” position.

Why is my North Star NSCWHC Water Dispenser producing hard water sometimes?
    • V
      vsanchezAug 19, 2025
If your North Star Water Dispenser is sometimes producing hard water, check and change the time setting if it's incorrect. If the water hardness setting is incorrect, refer to the “Set Water Hardness” section to set it correctly. If the model code programmed is incorrect, refer to the “Program the Water Softener” section to set it correctly. Avoid using hot water while the softener is regenerating, as the water heater will fill with hard water. Test untreated water for hardness and iron, and program the water softener accordingly (See “Set Water Hardness”) section to set. Fix all leaks and always fully close faucets, as a small leak can waste hundreds of gallons of water in a few days.

What to do if my North Star NSCWHC Water Dispenser has no soft water and the display is blank?
    • J
      Jack GardnerAug 22, 2025
If your North Star Water Dispenser isn't producing soft water and the display is blank, check the power supply at the wall outlet and ensure the power cable is properly connected to the back of the electronic board. Correct any power loss, reset the electronic controls, and then use the RECHARGE NOW feature. If the fuse is blown, the circuit breaker has popped, or the circuit is switched off, replace the fuse, reset the circuit breaker, or switch the circuit on, and then use the RECHARGE NOW feature. If the electronic control board is malfunctioning, replace it.

Why is there iron in the water from my North Star Water Dispenser?
    • J
      Jacqueline MooreAug 27, 2025
If you have iron in your water when using a North Star Water Dispenser, test untreated water for hardness and iron, and program the water softener accordingly (See “Set Water Hardness”) section to set, because there could be clear water iron in the water supply. Clean the resin bed with Resin Bed Cleaner, following the instructions on the package, because there could be iron in the soft water. Note that bacterial or organic bound iron cannot be treated by a water softener.

Why is the status light off on my North Star NSCWHC Water Dispenser, but the display is on?
    • M
      Mark NobleAug 30, 2025
If the status light is off on your North Star Water Dispenser, but the display is not blank, it could be because the system is not connected by Wi-Fi to the “cloud”. If internet service goes down, the connection will automatically resume when internet service comes back up. If the home’s wireless router was replaced, reconnect and register the system, as shown on Pages 17 & 18.
