Overview

The Numark CDN77 is a professional MP3/CD player designed for broadcast and audio playback applications, featuring dual CD trays and dual USB inputs for versatile media handling. This device allows for the playback of audio from both CDs and USB drives, offering independent control for two channels (CD1 and CD2).

Function Description:

The CDN77 provides comprehensive control over audio playback, including track selection, cueing, and time display. Each channel features a dedicated CD Eject/Insert button, a Selection Knob for navigating tracks and folders, and a Folder Search button for USB media. Playback controls include CUE, PLAY/PAUSE, and FFW/REW Cueing Wheels for precise audio manipulation. The device displays track information, total time, remaining time, pitch, and BPM.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Media Compatibility: Plays audio from CDs and USB drives.
  • USB Format: Supports FAT (FAT16 or FAT32) formatted USBs only. NTFS and exFAT are not supported.
  • Audio File Format: Plays MP3 files exclusively.
  • Audio Quality: Supports 16-bit audio at 44.1 kHz (41,000 Hz).
  • USB Inputs: Features a USB A slot on the front panel, with a USB B slot located between the CD trays.
  • Dual Channel Operation: Allows for simultaneous playback or cueing of different tracks from the same USB on CD1 and CD2. This functionality is not available for CDs.

Usage Features:

  • Source Selection: To begin playback, users must first select the desired source (CD, USB A, or USB B) using the 'Selection Knob' and confirm by pressing it down.
  • Eject/Insert: CDs are inserted and ejected using the dedicated 'CD Eject/Insert' buttons. Manual manipulation of CD trays is strictly prohibited. CDs cannot be ejected during playback. USBs can be inserted or removed at any time, though removing a USB during playback will stop the audio.
  • Playing Audio: Once a CD or USB is inserted and the source is confirmed, the first track is automatically ready for playback. CDs generally take longer to load than USBs. The CUE button will light red and PLAY will flash blue when a track is ready.
  • Track Selection: The 'Selection Knob' is used to choose different tracks. Turning the 'Selection Knob' while a track is playing will stop the current track and immediately start playing another, so caution is advised.
  • Folder Search (USB): Audio files located within folders on a USB will not appear automatically. The 'Folder Search' button must be used, followed by turning the 'Selection Knob' to locate and confirm the desired folder. This process must be repeated for every sub-folder.
  • Cueing:
    • Basic Cueing: When a track is ready, pressing 'CUE' sets the cue point.
    • Precision Cueing: The 'FFW/REW Cueing Wheel' allows for precise cueing to any point within a track. To use this, first play the track, then pause it at the desired point using 'PLAY/PAUSE'. Turn the 'FFW/REW Cueing Wheel' to fine-tune the position, then press 'PLAY/PAUSE' again to continue playback from that point, and finally press 'CUE' to set the cue point.
    • Important Cueing Note: Precision cueing can be noisy. To avoid broadcasting this noise, ensure the corresponding desk channel (CD1 or CD2) is turned off, faded down, or in cue mode before engaging the 'FFW/REW Cueing Wheel' for precision cueing. If noise occurs accidentally, pressing 'CUE' will stop it.
  • FFW/REW Cueing Wheel: This wheel is highly sensitive. Touching it during playback will immediately affect the audio (forward or rewind). Audio will return to normal playback only when the wheel stops moving.
  • No Program Function: The CDN77 does not support pre-selecting multiple tracks in advance.

Maintenance Features:

  • USB Content: USBs should only contain audio intended for broadcast. No non-audio files or unnecessary folders should be present on the USB to ensure optimal performance and ease of use.
  • Physical Handling: Users are explicitly warned against manually pushing CD trays. All CD operations must be performed using the designated Eject/Insert buttons to prevent damage.
