Chapter 3 Cleaning, Disinfection and Sterilization Procedures
OSF-3 ENDOSCOPE REPROCESSING MANUAL
3.3 Precleaning
If the endoscope is not precleaned immediately, residual
organic debris will begin to solidify and it may be difficult to
effectively reprocess the endoscope.
Turn the endoscope’s illumination OFF immediately after the
examination. The temperature at the Distal End of an
illuminated endoscope may exceed 41°C (106°F) and reach
50°C (122°F) due to intense endoscopic illumination. Surface
temperature above 41°C (106°F) may cause burns.
Preclean the endoscope at the bedside in the procedure room immediately
following the procedure. These steps are to be performed when the Light Source
and Suction Pump are turned ON and still connected to the endoscope.
