Introduction and Features

Important Notes

The TY1A-RS interface allows the replacement of a factory radio in select Toyota/Lexus/Scion vehicles and will retain

factory features such as steering wheel controls (SWC), USB ports (in most cases), AM / FM antenna, and the factory

audio amplier. This interface also allows you to program two radio functions to each SWC button by using short press

long press dual command functionality, and also provides outputs such as: vehicle speed signal (VSS), illumination,

reverse trigger and parking brake.

1. Connection of the OBD connector, with the White / Red and White / Black wires, is not always necessary. Use of these wires

will be dependent on whether or not the aftermarket radio requires specic connections, and whether the vehicle provides these

outputs at the radio. See the “Installation Steps” section starting on page 3 for additional information.

2. Adjustment of the vehicle settings through the original radio’s vehicle settings menu will be disabled after installation of the new

radio. It is advised to make sure all settings are as you desire prior to removal of the original radio.

3. The TY1A-RS does not retain Rear Seat Entertainment.

4. After installation, if you do not initially hear any audio, you may need to cycle the ignition again to initialize the factory amplier.

5. Speaker fading on factory amplied systems is only supported with the “amplied output” connection of the TY1A-RS.

6. When using real time fade, if the fader setting is biased more to the front or rear, as the radio turns on the sound may begin at

the default setting and then quickly transition to your custom setting.

7. Aftermarket radio features such as High Pass Filters (crossovers), DSP or “Network Mode” will interfere with proper fader

function. In order for the TY1A-RS’s fader function to work, the audio from the aftermarket radio’s output must match so it can

compare the front and rear audio levels and determine the proper fader setting for the factory amplier.

8. The USB-TY1 and USB-TY2 are included in order to retain the factory USB port for most (but not all) applications. Please refer

to www.pac-audio.com to see which harness you will need.

9. Best Kit’s part number BAA44 is included for vehicles that require an antenna adapter.

10. The CAM-TY11 or CAM-TY12 must be purchased in order to retain the factory reverse camera. Please refer to

www.pac-

audio.com to see which harness you will need. If the required harness is not available, it is possible to hardwire the

reverse camera using the information provided in Appendix A on Page 7.

Function Description:

The TY1A-RS allows for the integration of an aftermarket radio into compatible vehicles. The device supports two-wire resistive SWC systems and is compatible with various aftermarket radio brands such as Alpine, JVC, Kenwood, Clarion, Pioneer, Sony, and Fusion.

Important Technical Specifications:

The interface utilizes DIP switches for radio selection, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of aftermarket head units. It provides analog navigation outputs and can also process CAN data from the vehicle for navigation signals. The device includes an OBD-2 V3 connector for vehicles that do not provide CAN data or analog wires at the radio, allowing for the acquisition of vehicle speed sense, parking brake, or reverse signals. The OEM camera retention feature provides +6V camera power and camera ground.

Usage Features:

Radio Select DIP Switches: Users must set the DIP switches on the interface to correspond with their aftermarket radio brand (e.g., Alpine, JVC, Kenwood, Clarion, Pioneer, Sony, Fusion).
Wiring: The interface connects to the vehicle's wiring harness via multiple connectors (Interface Connectors 1, 2, 3, and 4) and vehicle-specific connectors (Vehicle Connectors 1-5). Connector 3's use depends on whether the vehicle has a factory amplified system.
Analog Navigation Outputs: For vehicles with analog signals at the radio, the TY1A-RS provides these outputs via Vehicle Connector 2 (Pink for Vehicle Speed Sense, Light Green for Parking Brake, Purple/White for Reverse Signal).
CAN Data Navigation Outputs: For vehicles with CAN data at the radio, the interface uses White/Red and White/Black wires from Vehicle Connector 2 to provide navigation signals via Interface Connector 4.
OBD-2 V3 Connector: If the vehicle lacks analog or CAN data wires at the radio, the OBD-2 V3 connector can be used to obtain vehicle speed sense, parking brake, or reverse signals by connecting it to the vehicle's OBDII connector.
Gain Adjustment: A gain adjustment on the side of the interface allows users to set the audio output level to the desired volume, preventing distortion.
Steering Wheel Control (SWC) Programming:
- Default Programming: The interface comes pre-programmed for most factory SWC functions.
- Optional Programming: Users can re-assign SWC functions or utilize short press/long press dual command functionality. This involves entering a programming mode by pressing and holding the program button, then following a sequence of button presses on the steering wheel to assign desired functions.
- Dual Command Functionality: This feature allows assigning two aftermarket radio functions to a single SWC button (short press for one command, long press for another).
OEM Camera Retention: The interface supports retaining the OEM camera, providing 6V power and ground through specific wires (Yellow/Black for +6V Camera Power, Black for Camera Ground).
RadioPRO App: The RadioPRO App (available for Windows) allows users to:
- Configure user interface options, including factory amplifier settings (Bass, Mid, Treble, Gain, Fader, Balance).
- Adjust Real Time Fading.
- Update product firmware.
- Read firmware/hardware versions.
- Access product user manuals.
- Note: Factory amplifier settings require the interface to be connected to the vehicle, while firmware updates and version readings do not.

Maintenance Features:

Testing and Verification: After installation, users should verify that the ignition turns on, the radio functions correctly (volume, balance, fade), SWC buttons operate as expected, and the LED on the interface turns off with the ignition.
Restoring Factory Settings: The interface can be restored to factory default settings (SWC mapping, factory amplifier settings, Real Time Fade) by pressing and holding the programming button until the status LED blinks red, then releasing the button.
Firmware Updates: Firmware updates can be performed using the RadioPRO App, ensuring the device stays current with the latest features and bug fixes.
