Overview

The Palico Grindtech is a premium quality, portable coffee grinder designed for coffee enthusiasts who appreciate freshly ground coffee on the go. This instruction manual outlines its features, usage, and maintenance to ensure a seamless brewing experience.

Function Description

The Grindtech is an electric coffee grinder that allows users to grind coffee beans to their desired coarseness for various brewing methods. It features a compact design, making it suitable for travel. The device operates with a built-in hopper for coffee beans and a container for ground coffee. It offers multiple grind size settings, catering to different coffee styles from espresso to French press. The grinder can be controlled manually via a button on the device or through a dedicated mobile application, providing flexibility and convenience. It is powered by a rechargeable battery and comes with a wireless charging base for easy power replenishment.

Usage Features

The Grindtech is designed for ease of use, offering both manual and app-controlled operation.

Charging and Battery:

Before initial use, the Grindtech must be charged. It utilizes a Type-C USB cable to connect the wireless charging base to a power adapter. Once the base is connected, it's ready for use. To charge the Grindtech, simply place it in the center of the wireless charging base. Charging begins automatically. Users can monitor the battery status through the connected Bluetooth app, which will display "Charging" and the battery capacity. If the device is not charging or is still in low battery, users should ensure the Grindtech is correctly positioned on the wireless charging base and that the USB Type-C cable is securely plugged in.

Adding Coffee Beans:

To begin grinding, the upper housing of the Grindtech needs to be opened. Coffee beans are then poured into the bean hopper, which has a capacity of 20-25 grams.

Selecting Grind Size:

The Grindtech offers 20 different grind size settings, allowing users to customize their grind for various coffee styles. The grind size is selected by rotating the lower housing of the device. The manual provides a reference table that correlates grind sizes (from 1.0 to 5.0) with common brewing methods such as Espresso, Moka Pot, Coffeeology Press, AeroPress, Pour-over, Steep, and French Press. For example, finer grinds (e.g., 1.0-1.8) are suitable for Espresso, while coarser grinds (e.g., 4.0-5.0) are recommended for Steep and French Press.

Operating the Grinder:

  • Waking up the Grindtech: To turn on the device, press the "P" logo once. A breathing green light will illuminate on the top, indicating that the grinder is in ready mode.

  • Manual Control: To start the grinding process manually, press and hold the "P" logo for 2 seconds. A breathing blue light will appear on top of the Grindtech, signifying that grinding has begun. To stop grinding, press the "P" logo twice. The grinding process can be stopped at any time by pressing the "P" logo.

  • App Control: For a more integrated experience, users can connect the Grindtech to the PALICO app via Bluetooth. Once connected, pressing the "Grind" button within the app will initiate the grinding job. Pressing "Grind" again will stop the process. Similar to manual control, grinding can be stopped at any point through the app.

Finishing Grinding:

After the desired quantity of coffee beans has been ground, the coffee grounds can be poured into any brewing tool. The Grindtech is designed with an auto-off feature; if left idle, it will automatically turn off after 2 minutes of grinding, preventing unnecessary battery drain.

Troubleshooting:

  • Green light not on after pressing "P" icon: This usually indicates insufficient power. The grinder needs to be charged for 2 hours before retrying.
  • Clogging: If the grinder clogs, a red light will illuminate. This can happen if there isn't enough power or if the grind size is too fine for the coffee beans. Users should charge the grinder for 2 hours and retry, or choose a coarser grind size if the grinder is fully charged.
  • Difficulty opening hopper: The main housing has a smooth finish, which can make twisting it open difficult. Using a towel to cover the Grindtech can provide better grip.
  • Hard to twist lower housing for fine grounds: Tiny coffee grounds can sometimes get stuck inside the burrs, making it hard to adjust the grind size. To resolve this, turn on the grinder and twist the lower housing from coarse to fine settings, allowing it to grind for a while. This should clear the burrs, after which the desired grind size can be reset.

Maintenance Features

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of the Grindtech.

Daily Cleaning:

It is crucial to keep the grinder dry, as it cannot be washed with water. After each use, the included cleaning brush should be used to gently brush away any residual coffee grounds from the hopper and the bean container.

Deep Cleaning (Maintenance):

Coffee beans contain oils that can accumulate and coat the hopper, burrs, and grinding chamber over time. For grinders used for more than 6 months, a deep clean is necessary to remove accumulated oil, dirt, and coffee particles. This can be achieved by grinding 3-5 grams of rice.

The deep cleaning procedure is as follows:

  1. Put 3-5 grams of rice into the hopper.
  2. Twist the lower housing to choose a grind size. A suggested grind size of 4-5 is recommended, as a too-fine grind size can cause the motor to overheat.
  3. Grind the rice.
  4. Before resuming normal coffee grinding, grind 3-5 grams of coffee beans to ensure that no rice residue remains in the hopper, burrs, and grinding chamber.

Important Note: The hopper is built inside the grinder and should not be twisted out.
