Overview

The PAX A80 is a versatile countertop payment terminal designed for efficient and secure transaction processing. This Quick Setup Guide provides essential information for unpacking, installing, and maintaining the device, ensuring a smooth user experience.

Upon unpacking the A80, users should verify the contents against the provided checklist. The standard package includes the A80 Countertop Payment Terminal itself, an AC Power Adapter, an AC Power Cable, a Telephone Cable, a Thermal Paper Roll, and this Quick Setup Guide. Any discrepancies or missing items should be reported to the dealer immediately.

The A80 terminal features a user-friendly design with clearly labeled components. On the front, users will find the Printer Cover, which protects the integrated thermal printer. Below the printer, the Contactless Area & Printer Latch is located, facilitating both contactless payments and access to the printer mechanism. The Main Screen, a central interface for all operations, is prominently displayed. For card transactions, the device includes an MSR Reader for magnetic stripe cards and an EMV/Chip Reader for chip cards. A Power ON/OFF button controls the device's power state, and Cable Guides help manage connected wires. Essential ports on the front include a USB Host (Port) and a Power (Port).

The back of the A80 terminal reveals additional connectivity and identification features. These include a PIN Pad (Port) for secure PIN entry, an RS232 (Port) for serial communication, and a Serial Number along with a Nameplate for device identification. For expanded memory and data transfer, the device offers an SD Card Slot and SAM Slots. Network connectivity is provided through a Line (Port), Phone (Port), and LAN (Port). Additionally, a USB OTG (Port) offers further peripheral connectivity.

Operating the A80 terminal is straightforward. To power on the device, press and hold the power button for 3-5 seconds until the device activates. To power off, press and hold the power button for 3 to 5 seconds until the device shuts down.

The A80 is equipped with two SAM card slots and one SD card slot, typically hidden under the back cover. For installation, users should insert the SD or SAM card with the contacts facing upwards and the clipped corner oriented forward and to the right, ensuring proper seating within the slot.

The terminal supports various card reading methods to accommodate different payment types. For magnetic stripe cards, users should slide the card through the MSR reader slot from top to bottom or bottom to top, ensuring the magnetic strip is oriented towards the device body and the card is fully inserted during the swipe. For smart cards, the card should be inserted fully into the EMV/Chip reader with the metallic contacts facing up and towards the device, ensuring it is completely seated for scanning. Contactless card transactions are facilitated by placing the card or device roughly within an inch (2.5 mm) of the Contactless Area, centering it over the indicated area for optimal performance.

Maintaining the A80 terminal ensures its longevity and optimal performance. The device is designed to operate within a temperature range of -10°C to 50°C (14°F to 122°F) with a humidity of 10% to 93% (without condensation). For storage, the recommended temperature range is -20°C to 70°C (-4°F to 158°F) with the same humidity range.

When cleaning the device, it is crucial to follow specific guidelines to prevent damage. Industrial-strength or abrasive cleaners should not be used, as they can scratch or damage the screen. The device should never be immersed in water or any other liquid. Furthermore, water or cleaner should not be sprayed directly into the EMV Card Reader or any of the ports. For cleaning the screen, a soft, lint-free cloth dampened with distilled water or a mild glass cleaner should be used to gently wipe the terminal.

Several terminal installation and usage tips are provided to ensure safe and effective operation. If any cables become damaged, they should be replaced immediately. Users should avoid inserting unknown materials into any port on the A80, as this can cause serious damage. In case repairs are needed, it is recommended to contact a professional technician rather than attempting repairs independently. The device should not be exposed to excessively hot, dusty, or strong electromagnetic environments. Finally, users should avoid vibrating, shaking, or dropping the device to prevent internal damage.

A crucial caution is provided regarding modifications: any changes or modifications not expressly approved by the party responsible for compliance could void the user's authority to operate the equipment. This emphasizes the importance of adhering to manufacturer guidelines and seeking professional assistance for any alterations.

The A80 terminal complies with FCC regulations, specifically part 15 of the FCC Rules, ensuring it does not cause harmful interference and accepts any interference received. It also complies with Part 68 of the FCC rules and ACTA requirements, with a product identifier label for telephone company reference. The device meets government requirements for exposure to radio waves, designed not to exceed emission limits set by the Federal Communications Commission. For any questions or assistance with terminal installation, users are encouraged to contact their service provider or PAX customer support.
