DEPTH-OF-FIELD
Depth-of-f
ield
is
the
area
between
the
nearest
and
farthest
points
which
are
in
proper
focus
at
a
given
lens
aperture.
The
depth-of*field
increases
as
the
aperture
becomes
smaller;
as
the
focal
length
of
a
lens
becomes
shorter;
or
the
camera-to-subject
distance
is
extended
further
back.
By
varying
the
f/stop,
the
range
"in
focus"
will
change
accordingly,
allowing
the
creating
of
different
photographic
effects
in
your
pictures.
As
illustrated
in
the
pictures
on
the
right
page
(examples
of
f/2.8
and
f/22),
the
range
"in
focus"
can
be
easily
confirmed
by
checking
the
depth-of-
field
scale
on
the
lens
and
previewing
through
the
viewfinder
(See
page
58.)
