In most cases, it is not necessary to stop the engine
because of an intermittent code. However, the
operator should retrieve the logged fault codes and
the operator should reference the appropriate
information in order to identify the nature of the event.
The operator should log any observation that could
have caused the lamp to light.
• Low power
• Limits of the engine speed
• Excessive smoke, etc
This information can be useful to help troubleshoot
the situation. The information can also be used for
future reference. For more information on diagnostic
codes, refer to the Troubleshooting Guide for this
engine.

Configuration Parameters
The engine electronic control module (ECM) has two
types of configuration parameters. The system
configuration parameters and the customer specified
parameters.
The electronic service tool is required in order to alter
the configuration parameters.
System Configuration Parameters
System configuration parameters affect the
emissions of the engine or the power of the engine.
System configuration parameters are programmed at
the factory. Normally, system configuration
parameters would never require changing through
the life of the engine. System configuration
parameters must be reprogrammed if an ECM is
replaced. System configuration parameters do not
require reprogrammed if the ECM software is
changed. Factory passwords are required to change
these parameters.
