This document describes the Philips Soundbar 8000 Series, model TAB8507, a home audio system designed to enhance your TV viewing and music listening experience. It includes a soundbar and a wireless subwoofer, offering immersive sound, including Dolby Atmos.

Function Description

The Philips Soundbar 8000 Series is a comprehensive audio solution for your home. It functions as a central audio hub, capable of connecting to various devices and playing audio through its integrated speakers and wireless subwoofer. Key functionalities include:

  • Soundbar: The main unit that processes and outputs audio. It features multiple input sources, including HDMI, Optical, Audio In, USB, and Bluetooth.
  • Wireless Subwoofer: Provides deep bass frequencies, enhancing the overall audio experience. It connects wirelessly to the soundbar, offering flexible placement options.
  • Dolby Atmos® Support: Delivers immersive, three-dimensional sound, adding richness, clarity, and power to your audio. This feature is primarily available when connected via HDMI 2.0.
  • Wi-Fi Connectivity (Play-Fi enabled): Allows the soundbar to connect to your home Wi-Fi network, enabling streaming of audio files from mobile devices using the Philips Sound app powered by DTS Play-Fi. It also supports AirPlay 2, Chromecast built-in, and Spotify Connect.
  • Bluetooth Connectivity: Enables wireless streaming of audio from Bluetooth-enabled devices like smartphones, tablets, and laptops. It supports multi-point control, allowing two Bluetooth devices to be connected simultaneously.
  • Multiple Audio Inputs: Supports various wired connections for different audio sources, including:
    • HDMI eARC/ARC: For connecting to compatible TVs to receive audio and control functions through a single HDMI cable.
    • HDMI In: For connecting external source devices such as DVD players, Blu-ray Disc™ players, or gaming consoles.
    • Optical In: For connecting to optical audio outputs on TVs or other digital devices.
    • Audio In (3.5mm jack): For connecting analog audio sources like MP3 players.
    • USB: For playing audio media from USB storage devices and for software upgrades.

Usage Features

The soundbar offers a range of features designed for ease of use and a customizable audio experience:

  • Power On/Off and Standby Modes: The unit can be turned on or off via the standby button. It has different standby modes: "On" (Wi-Fi connected, supports Play-Fi, Airplay2, Chromecast, Spotify connect, Alexa), "Semi standby" (Wi-Fi connected, but with reduced functionality), and "Eco standby" (Wi-Fi off, lower power consumption, longer restart time).
  • Source Selection: Easily switch between input sources (Optical, Audio In, USB, Bluetooth, HDMI In, HDMI eARC/ARC) using the source button on the unit or remote control.
  • Volume Control: Adjust the system volume and subwoofer volume independently using the remote control. The system also features a mute function.
  • Dolby Atmos Height Effect Levels: Select from different height surround effects levels (UPMIX, STANDARD, AI) to optimize the Dolby Atmos experience based on your environment and content. UPMIX ensures all speakers are utilized for configurations less than 5.1.2 or 7.1.2.
  • Setup Menu: Access advanced settings to configure the soundbar for a better experience. Menu options include:
    • Equalizer (EQ) Effects: Choose from predefined sound modes (MOVIE, MUSIC, VOICE, STADIUM, CUSTOM) to suit different content types. The CUSTOM mode allows for personalized sound settings via the Fine Tune App.
    • Bass/Treble Adjustment: Fine-tune the low and high frequencies to your preference.
    • Bluetooth Pairing (BT PAIR): Activate Bluetooth pairing mode to connect new devices or disconnect existing ones.
    • Speaker Level Adjustment: Adjust the output levels for Front Left, Front Right, and Center speakers.
    • Dynamic Range Control (DRC): Apply dynamic range control to Dolby Digital tracks (ON, OFF, AUTO).
    • Audio Delay (AV SYNC): Synchronize audio with video by adjusting the audio delay.
    • Display Brightness (DIMXX): Adjust the brightness of the soundbar's display (HIGH, MID, LOW).
    • Display Off Setting (DISP): Configure the display to turn off automatically after 10 seconds of inactivity.
    • Auto-Standby (STNBY): Set the unit to automatically enter standby mode after 15 minutes of inactivity (STNBY IN 15M) or disable this feature (STNBY OFF).
    • Firmware Update (UPGRADE): Update the soundbar's software via USB.
  • Wireless Subwoofer Pairing: The subwoofer automatically pairs with the soundbar upon power-up. Manual pairing is also possible if the connection is lost.
  • Wi-Fi Setup: Connect the soundbar to your Wi-Fi network using the Philips Sound app (for iOS and Android) or AirPlay setup (for iOS devices). WPS mode is available for routers that support it, allowing connection without a password.
  • DTS Play-Fi Enabled TV Integration: Connect the soundbar to a Philips Play-Fi enabled TV to stream TV audio wirelessly to your home speakers and set up surround sound.
  • USB Audio Playback: Play audio files (MP3, WAV, FLAC) directly from a USB storage device.
  • Factory Reset: Reset the device to its default settings by holding the volume +/- buttons for 8 seconds.

Maintenance Features

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your soundbar, the following maintenance guidelines are provided:

  • Cleaning: Use only a microfiber cloth to clean the product.
  • Battery Replacement: For the remote control, slide open the battery compartment, insert two AAA (1.5V) batteries with correct polarity, and slide the cover back. Remove batteries if they are exhausted or if the remote control will not be used for a long time.
  • Software Updates: Regularly check www.philips.com/support for the latest firmware versions and update the soundbar via USB to ensure access to new features and improvements.
  • Environmental Care: Dispose of old products and batteries responsibly according to local regulations, as they contain materials that can be recycled or reused.
  • Safety Precautions:
    • Ensure all devices are disconnected from the power outlet before making or changing connections.
    • Avoid exposing the product to rain, water, or excessive heat sources.
    • Do not insert objects into ventilation slots.
    • Ensure proper ventilation around the product (at least four inches of space).
    • Handle glass parts with care.
