Why does my Pit Boss Smoker take so long to heat up?

  If your Pit Boss Smoker is taking too long to reach the desired temperature, this may be due to several factors. If the outdoor temperature is below 65°C / 18°F, the unit may require more time to heat up. Using an extension cord can reduce the power supply, so plug the appliance directly into a power source or use a maximum 7.6 meters / 25 feet extension cord with a minimum gauge of 12/3. Ensure the door is closed properly with an undamaged seal and secure latch. Check that the water pan is correctly placed on the support brackets. In some cases, a faulty controller may also be the cause.

Verify the GFCI is the correct power supply, referring to the Electric Wire Diagram for access to electric components, and check that all wire connections are firmly connected and dry. If the controller fuse is blown, remove cooking components, turn the unit on its side, remove the screws on the rear of the control board, and inspect the fuse for breaks or blackening, replacing it if necessary. In some cases, a faulty controller may be the cause.

  If your Pit Boss Smoker is not producing smoke, first ensure that wood chips have been added to the wood chip box. If the heating element isn't staying on long enough to heat the wood chips due to a low TEMP setting, fully open the rear vents to improve airflow and then increase the TEMP to activate the element for 20 minutes. In some cases, a damaged wood chip box may be the cause.
