What causes a squealing sound in my Porter-Cable Air Compressor?

What to do if my Porter-Cable Air Compressor motor will not run?
    • H
      Holly VillaAug 25, 2025
If the motor of your Porter-Cable Air Compressor won't start, let it cool down to allow the overload switch to reset automatically. Ensure the tank pressure is below the pressure switch's cut-in point, so the motor starts automatically. Inspect and clean or replace the check valve if it's stuck. Check the wiring connections inside the pressure switch and terminal box. Avoid operating the compressor in a paint spray area. Bleed the line by pushing the lever on the pressure switch to the 'off' position; if it doesn't open, replace the switch. Check the fuse box, replace blown fuses, and reset the circuit breaker, using the correct time-delay fuse and rating. Rule out low voltage conditions and extension cord issues, and disconnect other appliances or use a dedicated circuit.

    • R
      Robin PriceSep 14, 2025
Excessive tank pressure in your Porter-Cable Air Compressor, indicated by the safety valve popping off, can be due to the pressure switch not shutting off the motor when the compressor reaches "cut-out" pressure, or the pressure switch "cut-out" being set too high. If the outfit does not shut off, move On/Auto/Off lever to the "OFF" position, if the outfit does not shut off contact a Trained Service Technician.
