What to do if my Porter-Cable Air Compressor motor will not start?
- AandreasummersAug 4, 2025
If the motor on your Porter-Cable Air Compressor won't run, it could be due to several reasons. If the tank pressure is too high, the motor will start automatically once it drops below the cut-in pressure. Ensure the Thermal Overload Switch hasn't tripped by toggling the pressure switch to OFF, unplugging the unit, waiting 10 minutes for it to cool, and then restarting. Check and replace any blown fuses or reset tripped circuit breakers, ensuring you use the correct rating. Inspect the check valve for blockage; clean or replace if necessary. Verify the wire gauge in the cord and extension cord length are correct. Loose electrical connections, paint spray on internal motor parts, or a defective motor may also be the cause, and should be checked at a service center.
