Overview

The Portman EVO ELEMENT™ is a professional stage lighting fixture designed for creative lighting applications, offering high-quality illumination, versatile control options, and robust construction. It is an original product with a registered design, emphasizing both aesthetic appeal and performance.

Function Description

The EVO ELEMENT™ is a versatile lighting fixture capable of operating in three distinct modes: DMX, MASTER, and SLAVE. In DMX mode, it integrates seamlessly with DMX consoles, allowing for precise control over its lighting parameters. The MASTER mode enables manual operation without an external controlling signal, and importantly, the fixture can send a controlling signal via its DMX output socket to control other units in SLAVE mode. This allows for synchronized lighting setups where one EVO ELEMENT™ acts as the primary controller. The SLAVE mode allows the fixture to be controlled by a MASTER unit or a DMX signal, with DMX signals always taking precedence.

The fixture features Portman's proprietary haloLED™ technology, providing true tungsten emulation with a color temperature range of 1600K-3200K. Additionally, it incorporates RGBW GLOW elements (3 x 12W) for a broader spectrum of color mixing and creative effects. The EVO ELEMENT™ supports 16-bit dimming and color mixing, ensuring smooth transitions and accurate color reproduction. Its Flicker Free™ technology offers three high-frequency rates (2.8-12kHz), making it suitable for film and television productions where flicker-free operation is crucial.

A key feature is the Portman Colour Feedback System (CFS), which uses RGB LEDs on the navigation buttons to indicate the fixture's status and menu state. This system provides immediate visual feedback on whether the fixture is receiving DMX/WDMX signals, its operating mode (DMX, MASTER, SLAVE), and any error information. When navigating the menu, the button colors change to reflect the menu level and parameter editing status, enhancing user experience.

The EVO ELEMENT™ supports RDM (Remote Device Management), an enhancement of the DMX 512 protocol that enables bi-directional communication between DMX consoles and fixtures. This allows users to remotely change fixture options, such as DMX addresses, without physical access to the device. The fixture also supports WDMX (Wireless DMX) when an optional WDMX card is installed, allowing for wireless control and the ability to act as a WDMX receiver and transmitter.

Usage Features

The EVO ELEMENT™ offers flexible installation options. It can be hung using two brackets on the back with rigging clamps or the included hanging adapter. It is also compatible with tripods or the P2 EVO floor base (sold separately). The fixture is fully compatible with P2 EVO™ accessories, including the base, height adaptor, spigot, and cotter. For complex setups, it can be integrated with E-Conn, a structure-building accessory. Users can adjust the pixel order and menu orientation to accommodate upside-down installations.

The fixture supports daisy-chaining of DMX 512 signals, allowing up to 32 devices per DMX 512 universe. It is crucial to terminate the DMX 512 line with a 120 Ω terminator at the last device.

Manual operation is possible when no DMX signal is received. Users can adjust the brightness of all LED sources from the main screen or control each source individually through the "CONTROL ME MANUALLY" option in the menu. The fixture also includes built-in macros for quick scene recall and dynamic effects. The dimming curve can be set to "Linear" or "Logarithmic" (default), with a "Halogen mode" option to emulate the behavior of traditional halogen lamps.

The Portman Colour Feedback System provides intuitive visual cues:

  • White: Fixture receives DMX or WDMX signal.
  • Red flashing: Fixture is in DMX operating mode, but no DMX/WDMX signal is detected.
  • Green: Fixture is in MASTER operating mode, and no DMX signal is detected.
  • Blue flashing: Fixture is in SLAVE mode, and no DMX/MASTER signal is detected.
  • Blue: Fixture is in SLAVE mode, and a MASTER signal is detected, but no DMX signal.

Maintenance Features

The user manual emphasizes critical safety precautions, including instructions for proper installation, electrical safety, and protection against burns and falls. Users are advised to allow the fixture to cool for approximately 30 minutes before any maintenance or service, as its surface can reach up to 70°C (158°F). It is explicitly stated that the rear cover should not be removed by users, as there are no user-serviceable parts inside.
