Overview

The PowerBlock Elite Dumbbell System is a versatile, space-saving selectorized dumbbell system designed for home use, allowing users to adjust weights quickly and efficiently for various exercises. The system consists of three main components: the weight stack, the handle, and the selector pin. PowerBlock offers different Elite sets, including the Elite 50, Elite 70, and Elite 90, which can be expanded using Stage 2 and Stage 3 expansion kits to increase the maximum weight capacity.

Function Description:

The primary function of the PowerBlock Elite Dumbbell System is to provide a comprehensive range of dumbbell weights in a compact form factor, eliminating the need for multiple fixed-weight dumbbells. Users can select their desired weight by inserting a magnetic selector pin into the corresponding slot on the weight stack. The handle itself is also variable, allowing for micro-loading or "fine-tuning" of weight selections using 2.5 lb adder weights that slide in and out of the handle. This design allows for quick weight changes, making workouts more efficient and adaptable to different exercises and strength levels.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Weight Range: The Elite 50 set offers a range from 5 lbs to 50 lbs. This can be expanded to 70 lbs with the Stage 2 Kit (Elite 70 Set) and further to 90 lbs with the Stage 3 Kit (Elite 90 Set).
  • Handle Weight: The variable weight handle can be set to 5 lbs (empty), 7.5 lbs (with one 2.5 lb adder weight), or 10 lbs (with two 2.5 lb adder weights).
  • Selector Pin: Features magnetic blocks that securely contact the round side rails of the weight plates. It is tethered to the first weight plate (rail) to prevent misplacement and serve as a safety retainer.
  • Construction: The system is built with durable components, including weight plates, side rails, and a handle assembly.
  • Warranty: PowerBlock offers a Limited Ten (10) Year Warranty on weights, side rails, and handle assembly for defects in material or workmanship. Other parts, such as weight selector pins, are also covered for material or workmanship defects.

Usage Features:

  • Weight Selection: To select a weight, users refer to a color-coded weight chart. The selector pin is then inserted horizontally under the desired weight at the colored side rail.
  • Handle Adjustment: The handle has an "Open/Close" lever to facilitate the insertion or removal of the 2.5 lb adder weights. When adjusting adder weights, the handle should be pointed upwards.
  • Lifting: Dumbbells should always be lifted from the center handle in a straight motion. Turning the handle sideways while lifting may jam the assembly.
  • Expansion Kits: The Elite 50 Stage 2 Kit (50-70 lb) expands the Elite 50 set to 70 lbs. The Elite 50 Stage 3 Kit (70-90 lb) further expands the Elite 70 set to 90 lbs. These expansion kits are specifically designed for the Elite series and are not compatible with Classic 50 Plus or Personal Trainer sets.
  • Safety Precautions:
    • Always ensure the selector pin is fully inserted, right side up, and completely engaged before lifting.
    • Never use if weights are jammed, as this can lead to falling weights and injury.
    • Do not drop the PowerBlock dumbbells, as this can damage the product, floor surfaces, and void the warranty. Dropping from a height of more than 12 inches is explicitly stated to void the warranty.
    • Avoid banging PowerBlocks together or against other equipment, as this can dislodge the selector pin.
    • Never attempt to disassemble the PowerBlock handle.
    • Children and minors under 18 must have parental supervision and instruction when using the product.
    • Always close the Selector Disc after loading 2.5 lb adder weights to prevent falling weights.
    • If not using an optional PowerBlock Stand, place the dumbbell set directly on the floor for best support due to its weight.
    • The tether cord on the selector pin is a critical safety feature and should not be removed.
    • Consult a physician before starting any exercise program.

Maintenance Features:

  • Regular Inspection: Before each use, inspect the dumbbells for loose or worn parts, including bolts. Replace worn parts at the first sign of wear and tighten any loose bolts.
  • Weld Integrity: If any weld breaks, stop using the PowerBlock immediately and refer to the warranty instructions. Using a PowerBlock with a cracked or broken weld can result in injury.
  • Cleaning and Lubrication: "Armor All" can be applied to painted weight plate assemblies (avoiding bands on side rails) to remove cosmetic scratches and act as a lubricant for nested assemblies.
  • Paint Touch-up: Liquid paint can be used for touch-up if paint chipping occurs from normal use. Scuffing of the powder-painted finish due to shipping or extended use can be restored with an "Armor All" type product.
  • Professional Service: PowerBlock products are not designed for user servicing. For any issues or service needs, contact an authorized PowerBlock retailer or PowerBlock, Inc directly.

The PowerBlock Elite Dumbbell System is designed for durability and user safety, provided that all instructions and warnings in the owner's manual are strictly followed. Its modular design and expandability make it a flexible fitness solution for home users.
