Overview

This document outlines the operation and maintenance of the Powerplus POW30546 Hammer Drill 1200W, a versatile tool designed for hammer drilling and chiselling in stone and concrete. It is explicitly stated that this device is not intended for commercial use.

Function Description

The POW30546 is an electric hammer drill capable of both hammer drilling and chiselling. It is equipped with an SDS-plus attachment system, allowing for quick and secure tool changes. The device features an On-Off switch for straightforward operation. For safety and control, an auxiliary handle is provided, which can be adjusted to achieve a comfortable and stable working position. A depth stop is included to control drilling depth, ensuring precision in various applications. The hammer drill also incorporates a dust collection device, which is particularly useful for overhead hammer-drilling work, helping to manage dust and maintain a cleaner working environment.

A key feature of this hammer drill is its hammer stop facility, designed for smooth drilling operations. This allows the user to deactivate the hammer action when it is not required, by turning a lever switch clockwise to a specific position. To reactivate the hammer action, the lever switch must be reset. Similarly, a drill stop feature enables the deactivation of the drilling action when the tool is being used for chiselling work. This is achieved by turning a lever selector to align a mark with an arrow on the machine case. Reactivating the drilling action involves resetting this lever selector.

Usage Features

Before starting any work, it is crucial to read the safety warnings and instructions provided in the manual. The hammer drill should only be used after ensuring that the power supply matches the voltage specified on the rating plate. When operating outdoors, an extension cable suitable for outdoor use is recommended.

For tool changes, the SDS-plus attachment system simplifies the process. Tools should be cleaned and greased with a thin layer of machine grease before fitting. To insert a tool, the fastening sleeve is pulled back and held, then the dust-free tool is pushed and rotated into the tool holder until it locks automatically. Verification of the lock is done by pulling the tool. Removing an SDS-plus tool involves pulling back the fastening sleeve, holding it, and then removing the tool.

The auxiliary handle is essential for safe operation and must always be used. It can be loosened, turned in an anti-clockwise direction to the desired position, and then retightened to secure a safe body position during work. The depth stop is adjusted by loosening the handle attachment, placing the straight part of the depth stop into its hole, setting the desired depth, and then retightening the handle attachment. For overhead drilling, the dust collection device should be pulled over the drill bit.

When hammer drilling, it is important to apply low pressure to avoid unnecessary load on the motor. Regular checks of drill bits are advised, with re-sharpening or replacement of blunt bits as needed. Before starting work, always check that the chisel or drill bit is properly locked in the chuck. The hammer tool should never be started until it is pressed against a workplace. After finishing work, the hammer drill should be unplugged from the electric supply, and the chisel or drill bit removed. Disconnecting the hammer drill from the electric supply is also necessary before changing any chisel or drill bit.

Maintenance Features

Regular cleaning and maintenance are vital for the longevity and safe operation of the hammer drill. Before performing any work on the device, the mains plug must be removed from the socket. The machine should be kept clean at all times. Caustic agents should never be used to clean the plastic parts. Instead, a mild detergent on a damp cloth is recommended, and water must never come into contact with the tool.

To prevent dust deposits, especially after work, compressed air (max. 3 bar) should be used to clean out the ventilation slots. The carbon brushes should be checked regularly, as dirty or worn carbon brushes can lead to excessive sparking and speed faults.

The manual emphasizes the importance of protecting oneself from electric shock, injury, and fire. This includes checking the voltage, ensuring proper use of extension cables (especially outdoors), and using a line detector to locate concealed lines in walls. Wearing personal protective equipment such as ear muffs, goggles, and a dust mask is recommended, particularly for jobs generating dust. The device should not be used in areas with vapors or flammable liquids. The power cable must be protected from damage, as oil and acid can compromise it. The machine should never be overloaded, and all workpieces must be secured sufficiently.

The device should be stored out of reach of children when not in use. If the power tool requires servicing, it should be carried out by a qualified specialist using only standard spare parts to ensure it meets the required safety standards. Any unauthorized modification to the apparatus will void the declaration of conformity.
