General Information
<Gasoline
Recommended gasoline:
Regular unleaded gasoline
If knocking or pinging occurs, use
a differentbrand of gasoline or
premium unleaded fuel. If unleaded
gasoline is not available, then
premium gasoline can be used.
Engine oil
Recommended engine oil:
Powertec 2-stroke
outboard motor oil
If the recommended engine oil is
not available, another 2-stroke
engine oil with an NMMA-certied
TC-W3 rating may be used. Battery
requirement
Do not use a battery that does not
meet the specied capacity. If a
battery which does not meet speci-
cations is used, the electric system
could perform poorly or be over-
loaded, causing electric system
damage.
For electric start models, choose a
battery which meets the following
specications.
Battery specications
Minimum cold cranking amps (CCA/
EN): 40ª430.0 A
Minimum rated capacity (20HR/IEC):
40HP
Without a rectier or Rectier
Regulator
A battery cannot be connected to
models that do not have a rectier or
Rectier Regulator.
If you wish to use a battery with the
models without a rectier or Rectier
Regulator, install an optional Recti-
er Regulator. Using a maintenance-
free battery with the above models
can shorten the life of the bat-
tery signicantly. Install an optional
Rectier Regulator or use acces-
sories rated to withstand 18 volts or
higher with the above models. Con-
sult your PowertecOutBoards dealer
for details on installing an optional
Rectier Regulator.
Propeller selection
The performance of your outboard
motor will be critically affected by
your choice of propeller, as an in-
correct choice could adversely af-
fect performance and could also
seriously damage the motor. Engine
speed depends on the propeller size
and boat load. If engine speed is too
high or too low for good engine per-
formance, this will have an adverse
effect on the engine. PowertecOut-
Boards outboard motors are tted
