Overview

The FRESH HEAD is a manual marine toilet designed for use with pressurized fresh water, offering an odor-free flush by preventing sealife decay in the bowl rim. It features a diaphragm pump with a telescopic handle for ease of flushing, which can be locked to prevent wastewater backflow.

Function Description:

The FRESH HEAD toilet operates by first checking that the handle is not in the locked position. Users then press the rinse water lever to wet the bowl before use. Waste is evacuated by moving the telescopic handle fully front to back slowly. When pumping solids, it is normal for a few strokes to feel soft until the solids clear the flapper valve. The rinse water lever is pressed again, and the pumping process is repeated as needed. For extended periods of non-use, the handle can be locked to prevent backflow. The toilet is designed to be flushed with pressurized fresh water, which helps eliminate odors by preventing marine life from decaying in the bowl. The discharge pump is a diaphragm type, operated by a telescopic handle for user convenience. This handle can be locked to prevent the backflow of wastewater.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Rinse Water Inlet: 1/2" FPT
  • Maximum Inlet Pressure: 150 PSI (10 bar)
  • Minimum Inlet Pressure: 5 PSI (0.33 bar)
  • Flow Rate: 3 GPM (11.3 L/min)
  • Discharge: 1 1/2" Hose
  • Maximum Discharge Height: 15 feet (4.5 meters)
  • Average Water Consumption per Use:
    • Liquid: 1 pint (0.47 L)
    • Solid: 3/4 gallon (2.8 L)
  • Shipping Weights:
    • Model 25M000 (Marine bowl): 22 Lbs (10 Kg)
    • Model 25H000 (Household bowl): 26.5 Lbs (12 Kg)
  • Models Available:
    • 25M00 Marine bowl
    • 25H00 Household bowl
  • Both models can have the pump installed on either the right or left hand side.

Usage Features:

  • Odor-Free Flushing: Utilizes pressurized fresh water to prevent sealife decay in the bowl rim.
  • Easy Flushing: Features a diaphragm pump with a telescopic handle for comfortable operation.
  • Backflow Prevention: The pump handle can be locked to prevent wastewater from returning to the bowl.
  • No Special Toilet Paper Required: Compatible with standard toilet paper.
  • Installation Flexibility: The pump can be installed on either the right or left side of the toilet.
  • Waterline Installation Options: Can be installed above or below the waterline, with specific plumbing requirements for each. For below-waterline installations, vented loops are mandatory in the discharge plumbing and between the raw water intake pump and toilet bowl to prevent flooding.
  • Safety Warnings:
    • Installation should be performed by a qualified person or electrician to prevent equipment damage, injury, or death.
    • Hazard of Flooding: Installations below the waterline require a properly positioned vented loop and double-clamped hose connections. Discharge seacocks, if used, must always be closed when the toilet is not in use.
    • Hard objects or stringy substances (e.g., paper towels, feminine hygiene products, filter cigarettes) should not be thrown into the toilet to avoid damage.
    • Always shut off seacock(s) and the pressurized water valve before leaving the boat unattended. The discharge pump locking seal is not intended to prevent flooding.
    • Using excessive force on the pump handle can damage the pump and void the warranty.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning Instructions:
    • Important: Do not use cleaners containing ammonia, ethyl acetate, phosphoric acid, or concentrated chlorine bleach, as these can damage the toilet.
    • Raritan Engineering recommends using C.P. a bio-enzymatic toilet bowl cleaner (Part# 1PCP22) to keep the bowl clean and fresh-smelling.
    • Abrasive cleaners or cleaning pads should not be used.
  • Visual Inspection: Regularly inspect for leaks at toilet and hose connections, check hose clamps, assess the condition of hoses, inspect seacocks, and examine the in-line strainer (if present).
  • Winterizing:
    • Proper winterization is crucial to prevent failures.
    • Flush plenty of water to clear discharge lines of sewage.
    • Parts Required: Approximately 3 feet of 1 1/2" I.D. discharge hose, one bucket, and approximately 1 quart of nontoxic antifreeze (do NOT use ethanol-based antifreeze).
    • Procedure:
      1. Close intake valve and discharge seacock. Disconnect and drain the discharge hose.
      2. Press the water rinse lever to drain all water from the inlet and rim. Disconnect and drain the intake hose.
      3. Connect a short hose to the discharge.
      4. Pour nontoxic antifreeze into the bowl.
      5. Flush the toilet until antifreeze begins to discharge.
      6. Antifreeze should remain in the toilet until recommissioning to protect the discharge side of the pump.
      • Note: Holding tanks, seacocks, and treatment systems must be independently winterized, stored, and recommissioned according to their manufacturers' instructions.
  • Recommissioning:
      1. Reconnect the pressurized water hose to the inlet valve. Open the water valve for the pressurized line if it was closed.
      1. Using a bucket, press the inlet valve lever and flush the antifreeze out of the toilet into the bucket. Dispose of the antifreeze properly, in accordance with local and federal regulations.
      1. Reconnect the discharge hose and open the seacock.
      1. Check all connections for leaks with several test flushes.
  • Replacement Parts: Overhaul kits and individual parts can be ordered through a dealer or directly from Raritan.
  • Troubleshooting Guide: Provides solutions for common issues such as no inlet water, inlet water not shutting off, bowl filling with water from discharge, and pump being too hard to operate.
  • Warranty: A one-year limited warranty covers defects in materials or workmanship from the product's date of purchase. Warranty service requires delivering the product prepaid with a detailed problem description to Raritan's service centers in Millville, NJ, or Fort Lauderdale, FL. Proof of purchase is required. The warranty does not cover defects from modifications, alterations, repairs by non-Raritan personnel, improper installation, physical abuse, misuse, or damage from fire, flood, external water, excessive corrosion, or acts of God. Implied warranties are limited to one year.
