Y ou ca n make tempor ary changes to this rud der gain value during normal
operati on (see your
Operating Guid e
for details).
Counter rudder
Counter rudder is the amount of rudder the SmartPilot applies to try to prevent the
boat from yawing off course. Higher counter rudder settings result in more rudder
being applied.
T he default counter rud der gain is set during th e initial seatrial:
• T illerPilot (and gy ro upgraded WheelP ilot) systems will adjust th e counter
rudd er setting automatically during the AutoLearn (see
page 28
)
• WheelPi lot systems (without the gy ro upgrade) will require m anual adjust
ment of cou nter rudder (see
page 33
)
Rudder damping
Adj ust the rudder d amping val ue if the SmartPilo t ‘hunts’ wh en trying to position
the rudd er . Increasing the rudder damping val ue reduces hunting. Increase the
damp ing one level at a time until the autopilo t stops huntin g, and alw ays use the
lowest accep table value
AutoTrim
T he AutoT rim setting determines the rate at which the SmartP ilot applies
‘stand ing helm’ to correct for trim changes caused by varying wind loads on the
sails or sup erstructure .
T he default AutoT rim is set during com missionin g:
• T illerPilot (and gy ro upgraded WheelP ilot) systems will adjust th e AutoT rim
setting au tomatically du ring the AutoLearn (see
page 28
)
• WheelPi lot systems (without the gy ro upgrade) will require m anual adjust
ment of Au toT rim (see
