INSTRUMENTS
Operating Instructions
Thisinstrumentisaconductivitymoisturemeterspecicallydesignedfor
thetimberindustry.Thisinstrumenthaseightcalibrationscalesenabling
theusertotakeaccuratemoisturemeasurementsin150woodspecies.
Moisturemeasurementscanbetakenusingtheintegralpinelectrodes
orbyusingtheheavy-dutymoistureprobe.Whenusedwiththetem-
peratureprobethemoisturemeasurementsareautomaticallycorrected
withrespecttotheambienttemperature.ThisinstrumentisswitchedON
bypressingthe buttonandswitchedOFFbypressingthe button
forapprox3seconds.Thedefaultautopower-offforthisinstrumentis5
minutesbutcanbesetmanually(seeautopower-offset-up).
Taking a Measurement
Removethecaptoexposetheneedleelectrodesorconnecttheheavy-
dutymoistureprobeontherighthandsideofthisinstrumentandswitch
theinstrumentonbypressingthe button.Selecttheappropriatewood
calibrationscale(A,B,C,E,F,G,HorJ)byreferringtotheenclosed
woodcalibrationtable(seecalibrationtableforwoodandcommon
timberspecies)andbypressingthe button.Pushtheneedlepinsorthe
heavy-dutymoistureprobepinsintothewoodandobservethereadingin
theLCDdisplay.
Measuring Without Temperature Probe
Thisinstrumentiscalibratedforwoodat20°C(68°F).Ingeneral,timber
thatishotterthan20°Cwillgivehigherreadingsandtimbercolderthan
20°Cwillgivelowerreadings.Anapproximatemanualcorrectionof0.5%
moisturecontentper5°Cmaybesubtractedfromtimberthatisabove
20°C.Fortimberthatisbelow20°C,amanualcorrectionof0.5%mois-
turecontentper5°Cmaybeaddedtothemeasuredvalue.
Automatically Temperature Corrected (ATC)
SwitchtheinstrumentONandselecttheappropriatewoodcalibration
scaleasdetailedin‘TakingaMeasurement’.Usingahammerandnailof
nominal3mmdiameter,makeaholeinthewoodtobetested.Remove
thenailandpushthetemperatureprobeintotheholeuntilthetipisatthe
required depth.
