Automatic Fire Extinguisher
If equipped, the automatic re extinguisher uses sensors to automatically
discharge when a re occurs, although it can be manually discharged.
Upon actuation, you may hear a sound similar to that of a small rearm,
followed by a rushing air sound. A charged system shows a light at
the dash indicator, while a discharged system shows no light at the
indicator - rell accordingly.
Automatic activation will occur at different times depending on
the severity of the re picked up by sensors. WHEN THE FIRE
EXTINGUISHER IS ACTIVATED, IMMEDIATELY SHUT
DOWN ALL ENGINES, POWERED VENTILATION
(BLOWER), ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS, AND EXTINGUISH
ALL SMOKING MATERIALS. DO NOT OPEN THE ENGINE
COMPARTMENT UNTIL A SUITABLE AMOUNT OF TIME
HAS PASSED SINCE THE EXTINGUISHER STOPPED
DISCHARGING. Opening the aft compartment prematurely may
cause a reash as air is allowed to ll the compartment. When opening
the aft compartment hatch have a hand-held extinguisher ready in case
of reash. Be cautious of hot metal when investigating the cause of
the re.
If a re has started in the aft compartment, DO NOT wait for
the automatic re extinguisher system to engage. Locate the re
extinguisher manual discharge lever after closing the aft compartment,
and turning off any electronic equipment. Remove the safety pin from
the “T” handle, and pull rmly to release.
