Steering Section D
locate
column
clamp over
the
spline
of
the
lower
column.
5 Retighten clamp
fixing
bolt
and self
locking
nut
to
secure upper and
lower
column.
6 Remove chassis stands and jack
down
the
vehicle.
7 Slide outer
column
down
upper
column
until the bracket
on
the
column
abuts the
support bracket
bolted
to
the engine bulkhead.

Secure outer
column
to
support
bracket
with
-a
UNF
set screw and self
locking
nut.
9 Locate outer
column
in its seating under
fascia,
with
rubber bush, and secure in position
with
clamping bracket,
two~
UNF
set screws
nuts, plain washers and lockwashers.

Fit
indicator
bush, spacer,
multi-switch
and
clamp
and secure
to
outer
column
with
two
set screws.

Using
two
No. 1 0 set screws and
lockwashers secure cover
to
multiswitch.

Ensuring the
front
road
wheel
is in the
straight ahead position secure steering
wheel
on upper
column
spline
with
1

UNF
nut
and
plain washer.
Note:
The steering
wheel
should
be
fitted
with
spokes in an inverted
'Y'
position.

Press crash pad
onto
the centre boss
of
steering wheel.

The steering mechanism should then be
checked
to
ensure all end
float
and slackness in
column
rotation has been eliminated.
If
not
remove one
or
two
shims
behind
steering box
end plate
and/or
tighten
the
follower
peg in
lower
column
worm
by
rotating the adjuster
screw.
Note:
When
the
latter operation is undertaken
the
front
road
wheel
must be in its straight
ahead position.
If, after the adjustment procedures described
above have been carried
out,
stiff
steering is
experienced check
whether
the
stub
axle
swivel
pin has been adequately greased.
