Overview

The Resideo Braukmann HyBo - Hydraulic Interface Unit (HIU) is designed for ambient heating and domestic hot water (DHW) production within central heating systems. This wall-hanging unit, with an optional external casing, is intended for indoor installation in suitable ambient conditions, with an operating temperature range of 5-55°C and humidity between 25-85%.

Function Description:

The HyBo HIU provides both central heating and instantaneous domestic hot water. DHW production takes priority over heating service. The unit integrates a plate heat exchanger, modulating motorized valve for DHW control, and an ON/OFF motorized valve for heating control. It features a control panel with a digital display and keypad for adjusting DHW temperature and accessing technician programming.

The unit operates by drawing supply from a centralized system. For heating, it circulates water to and from the apartment. For DHW, it takes cold sanitary water, heats it via the plate heat exchanger, and delivers hot sanitary water. The DHW production flow activates at 3.5 l/min and deactivates at 2.5 l/min.

A key feature is the "anti-burns function," which intervenes if the hot sanitary water delivery temperature exceeds a setpoint plus a programmed delta temperature (P3 value). In this scenario, the modulating 2-way valve closes to interrupt thermal energy, preventing scalding. Once the temperature drops, normal DHW production resumes. Additionally, a "warmed heat exchanger function" (P5=0) can be activated to maintain the primary circuit of the heat exchanger at a constant temperature, even without DHW drawing, to reduce delay time in DHW production.

    • Max. power consumption: 10W
    • IP protection: 20
    • Electronic board protected by a 1 Ampere fuse.
  • Motorized Valve:
    • Operation time ON/OFF type: 15 sec
    • Operation time Modulating type: 15 sec
  • Dimensions: 529mm (height) x 491mm (width) x ~183mm (depth)

Usage Features:

  • Digital Display and Keypad: The unit features a digital display that shows the current temperature and status indicators (LEDs for hot water temperature control system). The keypad allows users to turn the unit ON/OFF, adjust DHW temperature, and access technician programming.
  • DHW Temperature Adjustment: Users can adjust the set supply temperature of the hot sanitary water via the keypad. The display shows a value from 0 to 10, corresponding to approximately 40°C to 60°C.
  • Technician Programming: Access to a programming menu (P1-P5) allows technicians to configure various parameters:
    • P1: Time of sampling temperature (1.0-10.0 sec, default 1.0/1.3 sec depending on heat exchanger type).
    • P2: Delay time for DHW production activation by flow meter signal (0-5 sec, default 0 sec).
    • P3: Delta temperature added to setpoint for anti-burns function (5-50°C, default 5°C).
    • P4: Delay time for anti-burns function intervention (0-30 sec, default 0 sec).
    • P5: Boolean variable to activate/deactivate warmed heat exchanger function (0=activated, 1=deactivated, default 1).
  • Metering Capabilities: The unit can be equipped with energy and water meters (not included). Stub pieces are provided for easy installation. Heatmeter 1 measures total energy consumption (heating and DHW), while Heatmeter 2 measures apartment heating only. DHW energy consumption can be derived from the difference between Heatmeter 1 and Heatmeter 2 readings.
  • Balancing Valve: Equipped with a static balancing valve, with provisions for adding a diaphragm for differential pressure balancing (not included).

Maintenance Features:

  • No Regular Maintenance Required: The device generally does not require maintenance.
  • Strainer Cleaning: After 6 months of usage, it is recommended to clean the strainer.
  • Pre-installation Flushing: Before installation, centralized and apartment systems must be cleansed and flushed to prevent fouling of the unit with impurities. This is crucial to avoid unsatisfactory working and potential damage to components.
  • Connection Seals: Care must be taken not to damage or break connection seals during installation. Pipe connection torque must not exceed 50 Nm.
  • Backflow Preventer: As required by regulations, a backflow preventer should be inserted on the domestic cold water inlet (not included with the unit).
  • Water Quality: If supply water hardness exceeds 15°f (dGH), a suitable scale reducing device (softener) is recommended. Setting sanitary water temperature slightly above operating temperature can also reduce scale formation.
  • Electrical Disconnection: For maintenance or disconnection, the unit must be electrically isolated by first disconnecting the ambient thermostat, pressing the ON/OFF button, waiting for motorized valves to close, and then moving the bi-polar switch to the OFF position. It's important to note that the bi-polar switch does not interrupt power from the ambient thermostat.
