The RIDGID KJ-2200/KJ-3100 Water Jetting Machines are portable, engine-powered high-pressure water jetters designed for clearing grease, sludge, sediment, and roots from drains. These machines utilize a combination of water pressure and flow to effectively clean drain lines. A highly flexible and lightweight hose is propelled through the drain by reverse jets on the jetter nozzle, and as it is retrieved, it scrubs the line, flushing debris away. A key usage feature is the pulse activation, which allows for easier negotiation of difficult bends and traps. Both models are equipped with a gasoline engine that drives a triplex plunger pump.
Function Description:
The primary function of these machines is to clean drains by propelling a high-pressure water jetter hose through the drain. The reverse jets on the nozzle pull the hose forward, breaking up blockages and flushing debris. The hose is then slowly retrieved, scrubbing the drain walls. The pulse mode provides a vibrating action to the hose, aiding in advancement through stubborn obstructions. Both models come with appropriate jetter nozzles, a nozzle cleaning tool, an FV-1 Foot Valve, and an Engine Operator's Manual. The serial number, located on the frame, includes the month and year of manufacture in its last four digits.
Usage Features:
- Pre-Operation Inspection: Before each use, a thorough inspection is required, including checking the engine switch, cleaning the equipment, inspecting for proper assembly and completeness, checking for broken or worn parts, and verifying the readability of warning labels. Engine fuel and pump/gearbox oil levels must also be checked.
- Work Area Set-Up: The jetter should be operated in a well-ventilated outdoor area, away from flammable liquids or gases. The work area should be clear, level, and stable. Appropriate personal protective equipment, including safety glasses and gloves, is mandatory due to potential exposure to chemicals, bacteria, and high-pressure water.
- Water Supply: Confirm sufficient water flow by measuring the time it takes to fill a five-gallon bucket (125 seconds for KJ-2200, 55 seconds for KJ-3100). Insufficient flow can damage the pump. Hot water (up to 140°F) can be used for improved cleaning, but precautions against burns are necessary.
- Hose Set-Up: Select the appropriate hose size and nozzle for the drain being cleaned. The hose reel should be positioned within 3 feet of the drain opening to minimize hose damage. The foot valve is crucial for controlling water flow and must be accessible to the operator.
- Jetting the Drain: The hose with the nozzle attached is fed into the drain, typically the full distance to be cleaned, and then slowly pulled back. The foot valve is used to control water flow. If the nozzle encounters an obstruction, sharp thrusts of the hose or rotating the hose (a quarter to half turn) can help.
- Pulse Mode: This mode induces large variations in water pressure, causing the hose to vibrate, which eases advancement through difficult bends and obstructions. It should only be used when necessary, as excessive use can cause premature wear.
- Pressure Washer Functionality: With an optional pressure wash package, the machines can be used as pressure washers. This involves attaching a wash wand and hose, connecting to the jetter outlet, and adjusting pressure. Detergents can be injected using a detergent injector, but only those designed for pressure washers should be used.
Maintenance Features:
- Engine Maintenance: The engine should be maintained as directed in the engine operator's manual.
- Pump Lubrication: Check the pump oil level before each use and change the oil after the first 50 hours, then every 500 hours of operation. Use SAE 30W non-detergent oil.
- Gearbox Lubrication (KJ-3100 only): Check the gearbox oil level before each use and change the oil every 500 hours of operation. Use SAE 90W gear lubricant.
- Cold Weather Storage: If temperatures are near or below 32°F (0°C), the jetter must be prepared to prevent freezing damage. This can be done by using compressed air to force water out of the system or by using RV antifreeze (non-ethylene glycol antifreeze). Ethylene glycol antifreeze should not be used in the pump or drainage systems.
- Cleaning: The hose should be cleaned with hot, soapy water and/or disinfectants as needed. The unit should be wiped down with a damp cloth, avoiding water entry into the engine or electrical system.
- Service and Repair: For service or repair beyond routine maintenance, the machine should be taken to an authorized RIDGID Independent Service Center or returned to the factory. Contact RIDGID Technical Services for assistance.
- Disposal: Parts of the water jetter are recyclable. Components should be disposed of in compliance with applicable regulations, contacting local waste management authorities for guidance.
